Ever since I was four years old and wandered the beaches of South Carolina, wondering what lay beyond and under the water, I have been fascinated with the sea. Each time I walked the beach, the sea would deliver these incredible living creatures to my feet - seashells. I became enamored with these exquisite gems and dreamed of someday seeing them living in all their finery. I became certified to dive in 1981, and the sea has never once disappointed my sense of awe in its creatures. Everyone knows what a seashell is but do they really know what makes these incredible shells? Have they ever seen the living animals? Very few of my readers have seen or even encountered the living animal, and thus my two previous books have been a success vis-à-vis demonstrating the animals. They have educated and (hopefully) elevated those people who have seen a living mollusk. In my previous two books. Living Shells and Living Mollusks, I have photographed living mollusks, including living shells, in their native habitat and introduced my readers to the exceptional beauty of living mollusks - living seashells. I have been astonished at the worldwide acclaim garnered by these books. So, why a third book about living shells? With this book I am hoping to open the world to an artistic interpretation of these living mollusks - to share with the world a unique view that is the beauty of these creatures. As William Blake noted: "If the doors of perception were cleansed everything would appear to man as it is, Infinite. For man has closed himself up, till the sees all things thro' narrow chinks of his cavern." I began to view these mollusks in a different way, a cleansed perception if you will, and in a way that I wanted to show other people. I wanted to photograph these mollusks in a way that would highlight their form, their color, their pattern; in a way that presented them in their true uniqueness. I photographed them using different lighting techniques, angles, and in their abstract beauty. They became my muses. Moreover, I have provided a personal insight into those photographs. Be they photographs of cephalopods from New Guinea, volutes from Australia, nudibranchs from Baja, or shells from the Pacific Northwest, I have provided the how, why, where and when for each photograph. This is art from a source that is quickly disappearing. Living mollusks are disappearing due to climate and environmental degradation as well as human destruction of habitats. Enjoy them while you can. Charles E. I own each one and thoroughly enjoy the amazement evident on first time reader's faces as they page through these marvelous volumes. As editor of the journal, American Conchologist, I have not only enjoyed and appreciated the photographic skills and adventurist spirit of Charles, but I have directly benefited over the years as he has provided me, and thus our readers, a plethora of high quality images of undersea life for use in the journal. Colors that leap off the page and images of minute alien-appearing organisms have been juxtaposed with first-time ever photographs of rare mollusks and camouflaged seashells in their natural environment. With this latest adventure and book, it seems Charles, Nus, and Leah have decided to draw the reader's attention to the art possible with skilled photography and the wonders of nature found in Indonesian waters. Each image belongs behind glass, framed, and mounted on an exhibition wall. One section of panoramic images in unbelievably clear water, another of coral reef fishes and their myriad of colors, another of close up images of brightly colored organisms small enough to fit several in a soup spoon, and finally a section where the colors and patterns win out over any identification of the exact subject matter -- underwater abstract art in nature. This is a marvelous celebration of the wonders of life and as readers we are lucky to have this opportunity to share the very best of what Charles and company discovered in countless hours of underwater photography. This is the first book of underwater photography from America's most famous lake, which stretches over 191 square miles on the California-Nevada state line. The camera lens captures bizarre and fluid shapes that form faster than the eye can see or the mind can comprehend. More than 180 images show Tahoe's breathtaking submarine scenery, from its teal shallows, rounded boulders, and swirling compositions to the surreal still lifes in its clear, quiet depths. Cameron’s research expedition to explore deep-ocean environments garnered intense international interest, but the inspiring story of how he bucked convention to pull it off has never been told until now.

Conceived by Cameron’s fertile imagination, the DEEPSEA CHALLENGER submersible started life as a series of sketches for a vertical underwater vehicle that could shoot down to the Mariana Trench like a rocket. Determined to turn what many saw as a crazy idea into reality, Cameron began to assemble a disparate team of free-thinking rebels—including engineers, movie-prop builders, and high-school dropouts—whose unconventional ideas would not be constrained by academic orthodoxy. Under a veil of absolute secrecy, Cameron led the carefully selected group as they began the difficult process of testing and building the unique vehicle from scratch, applying bleeding-edge ideas to its design and construction. No one involved had ever built a submersible before.

Encountering numerous unforeseen challenges, Cameron was forced to accelerate his timeline, leading his team of rogue thinkers toward an uncertain outcome. Facing tremendous pressure, great personal risk, and unimaginable tragedy, Cameron ultimately triumphed using a principle he calls “group genius”—a belief that no one person on the project had all the skills required to ensure success but that together they were unstoppable.

• Told through candid emails accompanied by Cameron’s brutally honest commentary, Pressure is a deeply inspiring lesson in radical innovation, orchestral leadership, and group genius.

• More than 300 photographs, sketches, and diagrams.

• Bestselling author and filmmaker.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0655/8980/5233/files/1_0825c05a-60bd-487b-be10-634f1017e44e.jpg?v=1778931134
