Orientation of compression wood appeared to have been influenced by a combined effect of lean, aspect of slope, and prevailing winds. Several levels of compression wood did not affect specific gravity, modulus of rupture, or work to maximum load in beam tests. Compression wood did reduce modulus of elasticity considerably. Longitudinal shrinkage increased with increasing amounts of compression wood; tangential, radial, and volumetric shrinkages decreased.
