This provides a practical foundation in the mechanical behaviour of reinforced concrete for advanced structural engineering students and practitioners. It examines RC at multiple scales, introducing strain and slip based material behaviour which can then simulate the mechanisms that control cracking and crushing. These are then applied to beam segments, explaining member deformation, crack width, flexural strength and shear strength. The behaviour at a segment can then be used to predict more complex behaviour such as moment redistribution, the behaviour of prestressed concrete members, and the behaviour of members that have been strengthened using external reinforcement. The engineering is equally applicable to RC as well as fibre reinforced polymer reinforcement and fibre reinforced concretes.
