The Dao is the origin of all things in heaven and earth; it is the ultimate principle that encompasses and pervades everything. This indigenous Chinese religion has given rise to countless gods, spirits, and mortals-from the Jade Emperor at the highest to the Kitchen God and Mountain Deities at the lowest; from the scholarly God of Wealth, Bi Gan, to the martial God of War, Guan Gong. Those who attain immortality are like the Eight Immortals crossing the sea; those who attain the Dao are like City God Huang and Earth God Tu Di. Whether it be the First Emperor of Qin or Emperor Wu of Han, or any renowned ruler throughout the ages-which of them did not sacrifice their lives and shed blood (that of others)? Which of them did not have their souls reincarnated in Yunnan? This story follows three young people, inexperienced in the ways of the world, who are unwittingly drawn into a series of terrifying experiences on this quest for immortality. A thousand-year-old quatrain unravels a thousand-year-old secret.
