The Writings of Tatian and Theophilus and The Clementine Recognitions is a book that is part of the Ante Nicene Christian Library Translations of the Writings of the Fathers Down to AD 325 series. This volume, which is the third in the series, was translated by Reverend Alexander Roberts. The book contains translations of the writings of three early Christian authors: Tatian, Theophilus, and Clement of Rome. Tatian was a second-century Christian writer and theologian who was a disciple of Justin Martyr. His most famous work is the Diatessaron, a gospel harmony that combined the four canonical gospels into a single narrative. The book includes Tatian's Address to the Greeks, which is a defense of Christianity against pagan philosophy.Theophilus was also a second-century Christian writer and bishop of Antioch. His most famous work is the Ad Autolycum, a defense of Christianity against pagan accusations. The book includes the complete text of Ad Autolycum, as well as Theophilus's To Autolycus, which is a letter to a pagan friend. The Clementine Recognitions is a fourth-century Christian work that purports to be a record of the teachings of the apostle Peter. The book includes a translation of the first ten chapters of the Recognitions, which deal with Peter's encounter with Simon Magus and his subsequent travels and teachings.Overall, The Writings of Tatian and Theophilus and The Clementine Recognitions provides valuable insight into the early Christian church and its teachings. The book is a useful resource for scholars and students of early Christianity, as well as anyone interested in the history of Christian thought.1867. Part Three of Twenty-four.
