Debut author Ben Lawrence is an 11-year-old living in rural Shropshire in England. His main passions are football, motor sport and photography. Ben''s idea for Berrington - the spider who wore glasses came from his own experience of being diagnosed with a lazy eye and needing to wear a patch when he was a youngster. Ben hopes that the Berrington book will encourage parents to have their children''s eyes tested at an early age and receive treatment for a lazy eye if they have one. It is really important that children have their eyes tested early, even before they start school. The chances of a lazy eye correcting itself are greatly improved if the problem is picked up early. He also hopes that the story will help kids understand why some of their schoolmates need to wear an eye patch and be kind to them about it.
