Kage Baker is the author of The Company novels, her series of immortal, time-traveling cyborgs, including In the Garden of Iden, Mendoza in Hollywood, and The Sons of Heaven. Baker received the Nebula and Theodore Sturgeon awards. She was passionately involved in the theater as an actor, director, playwright, and teacher of Elizabethan English as a second language, which she often used for research in her novels.
Praise for In the Company of Thieves

“With each story, Baker effectively places her characters within the tides of history and emotion.”
Publishers Weekly

“Once you read [Baker], you’ll understand what all the fuss is about.…So many of these stories were only previously available in special edition printings, or other collections that are out of print, so this new volume from Tachyon Publications is an excellent (and affordable!) way to get your Baker fix.”
The Little Red Reviewer

Kage Baker’s short fiction is a major part of what makes her such a great author….In the Company of Thieves is an excellent collection.”
Tor.com

“It’s a bittersweet experience, reading posthumous publications of a favorite author written by someone else, and it always leaves me feeling both desperately grateful and bereft. Still, this collection brings Kage Baker’s lyrical style, dark humor, and lovely prose. I adore how her characters come to fully fledged life, no matter what style she uses, and how they stick around, long after I put the book away.”
The Canary

This collection…for fans of Baker, old and new…it’s good science fiction (with elements of steampunk) for any reader.”
Lit/Rant

“I’m not reviewing all the stories here – I need to leave something for you to go and discover yourselves.  Take my word for it – they’re good.  They’re all different.  The writing is ace.  There’s humour.  There’s sadness.  There’s steampunk gadgets and, did I mention, the giant chickens.  Go and read them for yourself.”
Stainless Steel Droppings

“...In the Company of Thieves is an excellent collection. The three novellas alone are a rich bounty....”
