Svetlana Suveica, Ph.D., is a research associate at the University of Regensburg, Germany, where she teaches Southeast European history. She earned her Ph.D. from the “Al.I. Cuza” University in Iași in 1999. Former research associate at the Institute of East and Southeast European Studies (IOS) Regensburg and associate professor at Moldova State in Chisinau. She published extensively on the transition of Bessarabian society from the Russian empire to the Romanian nation-state, the region’s interwar integration in Romania, institutional and social changes in Bessarabia and Transnistria during World War II, local experiences in the Holocaust. She is currently finishing a book on the alternative visions of belonging in Bessarabia after 1918.
