R.D. Laing, psychoanalyst and psychiatrist, worked at the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations, where he served as principal investigator of the Institute''s Schizophrenia and Family Research Unit. From 1964 to 1982 he was chairman of the Philadelphia Association, London, where he developed a new theory to relate psychotic breakdown to family and social networks. His publications include The Self and Others, The Divided Self, Knots, and The Politics of Experience.
