love olivie blake!!

"*review based on the earlier edition, self-published version of this book* nothing radical happens in this book. it's a simple story about two strangers that meet by chance in an art museum and form a genuine connection. they learn to love each other in spite of their debilitating belief that they are broken. however, what makes it so extraordinary is the honest intimacy in which the story was written, therefore supercharging what is otherwise a relatively mundane experience. it was easy to find pieces of myself in the characters, deeply flawed and tragically human as they are. it reminded me so much of the before trilogy by richard linklater with its emotional dialogue. there were breaks in the text that indicated a ""narrator"" and i still don't understand the purpose of it, but the prose was beautiful and poetic, and i really enjoyed the meditations on time, art, and bees. . the story delves into the presence of mental illness in a relationship, as well as the importance of personal growth outside of a relationship. the dual perspective in this book was like hearing from two sides of the same coin, which i really enjoyed because i think that approach works best for love stories and he said/she said narratives. i recommend it if you're looking for a book that allows introspection, and has a mature take on the complexity of human and personal connections."
