Helpful for planning hikes on Vancouver Island

"I found this book very helpful in planning my trip to Vancouver Island. I wanted to do some day hikes and a longer multiday hike. This definitely helped me narrow down the longer hike and had helpful information for planning. I will definitely go back to Vancouver Island as there are so many more hikes I want to do."

User friendly guidebook

"Great resource that has been exactly what i have been looking for. 40 trips provides plenty of options to suit all tastes. Descriptions, colour pictures, ratings, access, reservation info, etc make the book user friendly and easy to navigate. I would love to see new books for the interior and north next."

Great Book!

"Very well written, and good for those seeking both an introduction to the topic of backpacking, and a seasoned backpacker looking for new locations to try."

"not overly detailed, good to get you an idea of where to start"

Disappointing

"I had high hopes for this book. Unfortunately some trails are not well researched, and the trail descriptions are not helpful and occasionally even inaccurate. The book offers great trip suggestions, and good information on how to get to/from the trailhead, but nothing more."

The title sums it all up.

"Brings all the trail, on VanIsle together, . . . . accept the big one."

Lots of Day and Multi Day hikes within easy reach!

"I bought Backpacking on VI and also Backpacking in Southwestern BC. Received both last week and I am looking forward to this hiking season. Lots of information, great hike ideas and directions. I am setting a goal of doing all hikes listed that I have not yet done. Written in an easy to follow format I recommend these books for both 1st timers and experienced hikers. Thanks Taryn!."

Vancouver Island Backpacking all in one!

"I am a huge Happiest Outdoors fan. This book has everything you need to plan adventures on Vancouver Island. Love the layout, tips, and acknowledgment of Indigenous Peoples and land. Great variety of trails too. Awesome backpacking book!"

Great guide for backpacking in the lower mainland

"Great guide for anyone living in the lower mainland and interested in backcountry hiking trips. Useful information for novices and more experienced backpackers."

Kmstehfest (5/5)

Most Useful and Informative Backpacking Book of the Lower Mainland

"I knew I'd love the book as I already had read many of Taryn's blog posts and she is very detailed in her writing. I have found quite a few new adventures to add to the list from this book that I didn't know about before! Highly recommended! This was an amazingly informative and detailed book for anyone who wants to know more as a resource for backpacking in the lower mainland."
