Review highlights

  • "_x000D_ _x000D_ The physical book itself arrived with a deep nick, and the pages were noticeably thin and delicate."C R.
  • "Best book I've read in 2024, first book takes a bit to set the scene, this one has way more action."Kayla
  • "Jay Kristoff's latest book (sequel to Empire of the Vampire) is as bloody and action-packed as the first."CarolineN

Reviews

If you want fantasy driven by character, consequence, and restraint, this book earns your time.

"You get strong character work. Motivations feel earned. The dialogue stays sharp, with emotional weight that builds through choices, not exposition. The world feels hostile and structured. Rules matter. Consequences land. Violence serves the story instead of spectacle. The Pacing stays tight. Slow moments deepen tension. Fast moments hit hard. Nothing feels wasted."

Exceptional Dark Fantasy

"Great follow-up to Empire of the Vampire. I loved the first book, and the second is more of the same. I love Kristoff's writing and his characters."

Dernehlm (5/5)

Dark and Delightful!

"I am so thrilled with Jay Kristoff's books. I never thought I'd read something as wild as Nevernight again, yet here he is with this dark, sassy, bloody, gorgeous book. He hooked me with the first and kept me with the second. The storytelling is great, the characters are gritty and dark, the adventure is wild, and I couldn't possibly ask for more; except that I absolutely am, and so very, VERY excited for the rest of this series. #IndigoEmployee"

BLODDY FANTASTIC

"Incredible! Juicy & fast paced! Fans of Buffy will love this book!"

Jess (5/5)

Gabriel's struggles continue

"I was once again immediately drawn into Gabriel's tale. I continue to empathize with him and several of the other characters. Although his journey will not end with this volume, it certainly builds on the one before and takes the reader closer to an as yet unimaginable conclusion."

Genoa (5/5)

Love it!

"As the first one, I just love it! The story is complex and beautifully written! Still in love with the “Interview with the vampire” style!"

Sarah (5/5)

Disappointing quality

"Not commenting on the story, just the quality of the physical product. As others have mentioned, the pages are super thin. This book is only 20 pages shorter than Empire of the Vampire but the book is less than 2/3 as thick, to give you an idea. Being from the same publisher and series you'd think the quality would be consistent, but it is not at all. The Indigo Exclusive sticker is very difficult to peel off without damaging the cover and leaves a residue, so keep that in mind of you are looking to buy this version for the cover art."

Chan9876 (3/5)

Yes!

"Amazing story. I can’t wait for book 3. This story is amazing!!!"

Chloe (5/5)

If it were not for the poor quality of the pages, I would give it 5/5

"Very beautiful cover and illustrated endpapers, but very thin paper, which makes it easily damaged. This is the second part of the series, I haven't read it yet, but I hope it will be as wonderful as the first. The illustrations are just insane. I love it ❤"

Yana (4/5)

SO GOOD

"Best book I've read in 2024, first book takes a bit to set the scene, this one has way more action."
