Not a win for me

"*I received an eARC from HarperCollins Canada, Avon, Harper Voyager, & NetGalley. All opinions are my own. * . I know the Christmas Notch series was not for everyone - but for myself, I was absolutely charmed by it. There was something so campy and fun about the premise of an “adult film” studio being roped in to do Hallmark-like Christmas movies. Even the spin off summer novellas were fun little reads. . However, this extension feels like it has lost a lot of what made the stories charming to me. While this is a standalone and potentially a new series, characters we saw in Christmas Notch are mentioned, though they are not the stars. We have some tropes that feel a little stale, though they do soften when the two MCs begin to actually open up to each other and begin their secret affair. . Personally, there was too much of a power difference between the two characters, professor and nanny/also professor, for me to vouch for their relationship. I know others won’t find this a dealbreaker, but it was for me. As always though, the sex scenes are very hot - and almost feel too hot for the setting/style of the book. At least with Christmas Notch there was the “Adult Film” background to fall back on, that helped make the level of heat fit. . There are also footnotes in this romcom, which I thought added a bit of fun, but reading the footnotes in the ebook format was tedious and annoying - I think it would work much better in physical or audiobook format. . Overall, Fundamentals is entertaining and sexy, it just didn’t satisfy me with the level of ‘fun’ I had come to expect coming from the Christmas Notch series. . Hisses & Kisses 🐍"

"Witty and entertaining from first page to last, A Merry Little Meet Cute will delight readers looking for a fresh, funny, fat- and sex-positive romcom. Bee and Nolan, both immensely likeable characters, anchor the sweetly raunchy story, but Murphy and Simone have also created memorable families and communities surrounding the two leads. This book is a joy to read, and readers will be clamoring for more stories set in the same world." - Olivia Dade, national bestselling author of Ship Wrecked
