The Owens sisters confront the challenges of life and love in this bewitching novel from New York Times bestselling author Alice Hoffman—now in a gorgeous deluxe hardcover edition.
This deluxe edition of Practical Magic includes: • A beautiful new jacket featuring embossing and a full sheet of foil • Solid black endpapers • Deckled edges
For more than two hundred years, the Owens women have been blamed for everything that has gone wrong in their Massachusetts town. Gillian and Sally have endured that fate as well: as children, the sisters were forever outsiders, taunted, talked about, pointed at. Their elderly aunts almost seemed to encourage the whispers of witchery, with their musty house and their exotic concoctions and their crowd of black cats. But all Gillian and Sally wanted was to escape. One will do so by marrying, the other by running away. But the bonds they share will bring them back—almost as if by magic...
“Splendid...Practical Magic is one of [Hoffman's] best novels, showing on every page her gift for touching ordinary life as if with a wand, to reveal how extraordinary life really is.”—Newsweek
“[A] delicious fantasy of witchcraft and love in a world where gardens smell of lemon verbena and happy endings are possible.”—Cosmopolitan

Great Story
"Perfect story to embody the strength of Women and Sisterhood. Part historical fiction to entertain along with magic, while dealing with current obstacles still faced by Women today."

The Perfect Read for Autumn
"This was the perfect read heading into Autumn (even though unbeknownst to me this story is mostly set during the Summer months). It was 'witchy', mystical, unique, and atmospheric. Although there is some darkness to the story, it doesn't feel like too heavy of a novel to read. The writing is also truly incredible, detailed, and provides the ambience for the atmosphere the story is set in. Along with that, there's some randomly hidden one liners that pack a punch when it comes to being metaphorical on life. I really enjoyed this story! I somewhat anticipated that I would because I really like the movie but that's also where I have to put a disclaimer: this book is really different from the adaptation. I know adaptations are different in general but when it comes to this one, I would say the movie is very loosely based on the book. It has many of the main points but told in a different way. If you're looking for a witchy read for Autumn and the Halloween season, look no further and pick this one up!"
