From the New York Times bestselling author of The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning, a book of humorous and charming advice for embracing life and aging joyfully.
In her international bestseller The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning Margareta Magnusson introduced the world to the Swedish tradition of döstädning, or “death cleaning”—clearing out your unnecessary belongings so others don’t have to do it for you. Now, unburdened by (literal and emotional) baggage, Magnusson is able to focus on what makes each day worth living. In her new book she reveals her discoveries about aging—some difficult to accept, many rather wondrous. She reflects on her idyllic childhood on the west coast of Sweden, the fullness of her life with her husband and five children, and learning how to live alone. Throughout, she offers advice on how to age gracefully, such as: wear stripes, don’t resist new technology, let go of what doesn’t matter, and more.
As with death cleaning, it’s never too early to begin. The Swedish Art of Aging Exuberantly shows all readers how to prepare for and understand the process of growing older and the joys and sorrows it can bring. While Magnusson still recommends decluttering (your loved ones will thank you!), her ultimate message is that we should not live in fear of death but rather focus on appreciating beauty, connecting with our loved ones, and enjoying our time together.
Wise, funny, and eminently practical, The Swedish Art of Aging Exuberantly is a gentle and welcome reminder that, no matter your age, there are always fresh discoveries ahead, and pleasures both new and familiar to be encountered every day.

The Swedish Art of Aging Exuberantly: Life Wisdom from Someone Who Will (Probably) Die Before You
"With the easygoing wisdom that can come to those of an advanced age, Margareta Magnusson treats us to her gentle humour, her interesting memories, and some valuable tips on dealing with the relentless passage of time. This book feels like a little oasis in these times of political bullies and rudeness, perhaps because it is written by someone who has lived through many decades and allowed herself to learn from them. We may not be able to fix the world or slow the passing of time, but we can always read a book written by a good human being and feel all the better for it."

Swedish art of aging exuberantly
"Excellent book using Swedish logic to get you to review your life and take the necessary steps to age exuberantly."

Disappointing!
"I bought this book on recommendation from the Ottawa Citizen. What a disappointment. I found it poorly written and not terribly incite full. The musing of an older person, that quite frankly, I am surprised has made it to print. The price was ridiculous for the volume of the book and lack of depth from the writing."

Interesting Views & Suggestions about Aging
"I recently read The Swedish Art of Aging Exuberantly by Margareta Magnusson. A quick read with snippets of humour on the process of aging that none of us will escape. Margareta writes with clarity and wisdom on many topics regarding aging. One of the key points I took from her book is the importance of going through all your ""crap"" (material possessions) before you die so the burden will not be left to your loved ones. Margareta stresses the importance of keeping up with technology especially now since experiencing a pandemic where physical social interaction was limited. Another tidbit I gleaned from reading her book was the importance of surrounding yourself with younger people and engaging in discussions regarding their interests and future goals. She touches on the topic of having something to take care of other than yourself. She discusses the pros and cons of having a pet and says that ""having even a small thing to look forward to, something other than yourself to care for, is important whatever age you are. "" Overall, Margareta presents that it's not death we should be worrying about, it's how long we are going to live. It's how we choose to face this process that will determine our overall acceptance of getting old!!!"
