FAQ For Edi (Electronic Data Interchange)

What is EDI?

Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is the electronic transfer of structured data between two computer networks, allowing companies to electronically exchange business documents such as a Purchase Order (PO), Purchase Order Acknowledgement (POA), Purchase Order Change (POC), Advance Shipping Notice (ASN), Invoice and Inventory Inquiry.

DO I HAVE TO BE EDI COMPLIANT?

Yes – if Indigo and your organization have agreed to establish a commercial relationship (see FAQ for Book Vendors or FAQ for General Merchandise Vendors). It is Indigo’s expectation that a vendor will be EDI compliant with Indigo. The onus is on the vendor to promptly take the appropriate steps to enable this capability.

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY ORGANIZATION DOES NOT BECOME EDI COMPLIANT?

EDI processes deliver significant productivity and cost benefits to both vendors and Indigo. These processes do not require complicated technical systems. If you have access to the Internet, you can transact via EDI (via a Web EDI solution). If your organization chooses to not become EDI compliant, Indigo may apply cost recovery charges to address the loss in productivity. Please see our Indigo Vendor Manuals for more detail.
