Good addition to the series in time for Halloween
"As always, the Narwhal and Jelly books are just so cute and fun that I can't help but enjoy them. The artwork is simple yet effective, and the story is intended to keep a young reader interested and not be boring. In this instalment, perfect for Halloween, Narwhal is trying on different costumes and Jelly is trying to get over a fear of all things spooky that comes with costumes. The story moves quickly to its conclusion, and there is a small lesson to be had around learning to be brave for the friends we love. All in all, a great addition to the series. And it can definitely be read as a stand alone. I will say this again, but I have had many parents come up to me and complain about the fact that these books don't have a lot of words which makes them less "value" for money. I would argue always that having a book that your children are interested in reading is a way to get them engaged with books. Sure, it's not a lot of words, but there is so much to the stories that go beyond words. I've often encouraged young readers to not just pick up these stories but then to try and write their own stories about Narwhal and Jelly. The beauty of the artwork is that it is not too hard for a young child to replicate. And of course, there are guides on how to draw the characters which help."
