Gothic Suspense might be a new favourite genre!
"Dreams of the Alhambra is set against two distinct timelines – one modern and one reaching back to 15th Century Spain. The author’s rich blend of descriptive and figurative language perfectly transported you back in time. Being a gardener, I particularly enjoyed the chapters covering the love language of flowers – letting the blooms say the words for the situationship. The depiction of the modern timeline romantic entanglement definitely had a ring of contemporary truth about it. Both carried a lot of relationship baggage with them and I’m glad the author didn’t gloss over that as I feel it is more authentic to the reader. Despite enjoying the book, halfway through I felt I knew what was coming. The writing, however, is so persuasive and the possibility of plot twists made it all the worthwhile reading until the end. I’m still not one hundred percent certain what the Gothic suspense genre is, but I find I do not care, because the novel was so enjoyable! I commend the author for writing another book and look forward to her future novels, or my hope is that her books become mini series!"
