It was fifty years ago, that Montreal hosted the Summer Games of the XXI Olympiad. Over two weeks in July 1976, the city enjoyed the splotlight on glowing international acclaim, revelling in the glory and glamour of hosting such a prestigious event. And the man principally responsble? Mayor Jean Drapeau. Of course, the Games didn't just magically come to Montreal. There is a fascinating story stretching back decades before the '76 Olympics, and an equally interesting tale of the financial repercussions Montreal has borne and continues to bear. Veteran Montreal Gazette cartoonist Terry Mosher (pen name Aislin) was witness to it all. Terry has amassed material from old sketchbooks, scrapbooks, newspaper clippings and the work of fellow cartoonists to create this amusing cartoon memoir of one of the most riveting periods in Montreal's rich history.
