"I've known Cassie since I was a teenager, when she drove me and a few other hockey school guys to Tim Hortons during a break on the ice. She was generous and she was authentic, and over all these years since, neither of those things has changed. Cassie offers an honest, clear-eyed view of her journey through hockey—and in life—in this book. She gives as much effort here as she did on the ice for Canada. Having known her since I was a kid, and crossing paths many times in the NHL, I'd expect nothing less."
—Sidney Crosby, captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins

“Cassie has been a trailblazer for our game in so many ways, laying a blueprint through her leadership, resilience, and the way she’s continued to elevate hockey far beyond her own career. The impact she’s had isn’t just measured in accomplishments, but in the people she’s inspired, the standards she has set, and the doors she’s helped open along the way. I personally can attest how she has helped me navigate being a leader in untraditional spaces. This book is a reflection of the kind of lasting legacy Cassie continues to build, one that leaves a meaningful impact on every team, organization, and person fortunate enough to know or work alongside her.”
—Jessica Campbell, first female coach in the NHL

"When I started my broadcasting career, I was spoiled to work alongside Cassie. She is the ultimate teammate, leader, and is a gold-medal standard for women in sports and media. Among her most admirable qualities, she has remained kind and genuine while being incredibly accomplished both personally and professionally. She's extremely easy to root for!"
—Kevin Bieksa, Hockey Night in Canada

"In the eyes of my peers and me, Cassie is nothing short of a trailblazer for our sport. Throughout her career, she has embodied teamwork, leadership, and a commitment to fighting for what is right. Her dedication to growing the game long after hanging up her skates speaks to her character and is a major reason why women's hockey has progressed so much. This book highlights her journey and will give readers a true sense of why we admire her work so deeply, both on and off the ice."
—Blayre Turnbull, captain of the Toronto Sceptres

"Just a Girl resists the idea of grand narrative. It reflects both the dismissive phrase often directed at young women in sport and Campbell-Pascall's own grounding in her roots—a girl from Brampton, Ontario, who simply followed her passion. . . . The same competitor who once led Canada is still present—only now, the story is in her voice, with both triumphs and struggles given equal weight."
Calgary Herald
Cassie Campbell-Pascall has been a pillar of Canadian hockey for nearly 30 years, first as a player and then as a broadcaster and builder. She led the national women's team to Olympic gold medal victories in 2002 and 2006, en route to becoming the longest-serving captain in team history. Campbell-Pascall was also the first woman to work as a colour analyst during a broadcast of Hockey Night in Canada, and would later become the first female hockey player inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame. In 2012, she was one of only four players named to the inaugural induction class for the Order of Hockey In Canada, honoured alongside Wayne Gretzky, Jean Beliveau and Gordie Howe. (She was invested as a Member of the Order of Canada a few years later.) In 2018, she became the first woman named to the Hockey Hall of Fame selection committee. Campbell-Pascall remains an active hockey broadcaster, as well as an active minor hockey coach in Calgary and advocate for the growth of the women's game.
