Great Update

"The original Wealthy Barber still should be read as a staple in the personal finance world, but this edition is a useful update in the new world of Canadian tax programs. The main points remain, and the additional information on FHSA, TFSA and RRSPs are good to know especially for those looking to purchase a home."

Fun, Entertaining, Canadian Financial Planning Guide

"We read the original Wealthy Barber over 35 years ago and found it to be very easy to read and an engaging way to learn about money management. Now we’ve purchased copies of the updated version for all of our young adult children so that they will hopefully gain the knowledge that we did so many years ago. We like that it is written a Canadian for Canadians!"

Use your money wisely

"Book offers practical guidelines on how to use money effectively in this day and age. Useful ideas in every chapter including how you might be wasting money right now. How to avoid the big money traps. A very good book for all ages but particularly those just starting or early in their financial journey."

Excellent title. You can do okay financially with a regular job.

"Writing is excellent and makes a good book on personal finance. Unfortunately the excellent cartoons that emphasize the text are not in this new book. I bought copies for my young adult nieces and nephews ."

Required Reading by grandchildren.

"I purchased four copies for my grandchildren to help with their decisions for investments to secure their future. I read his first books and this one is just what my grandchildren need to make good decisions for themselves."

We can all benefit from the newly revised Wealthy Barber

"I bought this book as a Christmas gift for a family member. I read his original book many years ago. I saw the author on tv recently promoting his newly revised book, and thought the gift of financial knowledge is priceless. (It’s a gift, but I had a thorough look thru)"

Debbie (5/5)

Essential Book for you and your loved ones

"This book is the perfect way to learn the most important things about personal finance. ETF’s, Index Funds,Saving,Investment containers all explained in a way that even those who have no knowledge or interest in finance will understand and more importantly will enjoy reading about. David has done an excellent job here with the writing and keeping those of us who are younger with shorter attention spans engaged. Really enjoyed this book and I can’t recommend it enough."

Very good update of a Canadian personal finance classic

"I read the original ""Wealthy Barber"" in the 1990s and I found it to be one of the easiest personal finance books to understand at the time. This update is also very good at turning complicated financial concepts into easier-to-understand stories. Sections include saving money, investing, buying a home, wills and insurance. Near the end of the book, there is a line that says something to the effect of ""this is a good approach for someone in the range of 20-45 years old"". I'm in my 50s now, so I wondered how applicable the strategies would be for someone of my generation (Gen X). If you've never read the ""Wealthy Barber"" series and are a Millennial or younger, I would strongly recommend it, especially if you have limited knowledge of personal finance and investing."

Avoid pitfalls now to glide through your future.

"Very informative about aspects of current issues impacting on personal finances as they affect us and ouŕ finànciaĺ futùre. Written in lay terms with the author's inimitable sense of humour."

Valerie W. (5/5)

Pay yourself first whatever your age! Your future self will ALWAYS be better for it.

"This update is so practical and delivered in a wonderful low-key humorous dad joke-y way. Dave takes boring and frankly frustrating financial topics and weaves them into the story in such a way you that doesn't diminish their impact or weight, but makes you understand in a concise way, what you can do for our own life circumstances to navigate. I had been impatiently waiting for this update, and it has absolutely delivered. Reading the original wealthy barber in my 20s, young, naive, full of hope and pragmatism, I leaned into pay yourself first. Now in my 40s, divorced, single parent and navigating this new chapter, I still find the message resonates and have shared this far and wide. Well done Dave and your team!"

It's Dave writing this, so I'll spare you the fluffy tribute. I've been an incredibly lucky guy. My first big break was being born to fantastic parents. The best. When I was quite young (27), I wrote the original version of this book. Its success led me to all kinds of opportunities, including the record-setting Looneyspoons cookbook and, of course, Dragons' Den. Those were two wonderful experiences. Perhaps the greatest perk of my career has been the associated non-stop travel across this beautiful country. So many stunning spots. So many kind, welcoming people. I've enjoyed the entire journey immensely. I live in Waterloo and Sarnia now and love both. Stop by sometime (but call first!). I have two amazing kids, great friends, a troublingly deep passion for the Detroit Lions, an obsession with A&W, a 126-year-old father and the world's worst behaved puppy, Jasper. As I said, I've been an incredibly lucky guy.
