From an author “destined to become a titan of the macabre and unsettling” (Erin A. Craig, #1 New York Times bestselling author), a haunting debut—soon to be a Netflix original movie—about two homeowners whose lives are turned upside down when the house’s previous residents unexpectedly visit.
As a young, queer couple who flip houses, Charlie and Eve can’t believe the killer deal they’ve just gotten on an old house in a picturesque neighborhood. As they’re working in the house one day, there’s a knock on the door. A man stands there with his family, claiming to have lived there years before and asking if it would be alright if he showed his kids around. People pleaser to a fault, Eve lets them in.
As soon as the strangers enter their home, inexplicable things start happening, including the family’s youngest child going missing and a ghostly presence materializing in the basement. Even more weird, the family can’t seem to take the hint that their visit should be over. And when Charlie suddenly vanishes, Eve slowly loses her grip on reality. Something is terribly wrong with the house and with the visiting family—or is Eve just imagining things?
This unputdownable and spine-tingling novel “is like quicksand: the further you delve into its pages, the more immobilized you become by a spiral of terror. We Used to Live Here will haunt you even after you have finished it” (Agustina Bazterrica, author of Tender Is the Flesh).

Reviews
We Used to Live Here
"A creepy and very unsettling tale. This deals with mental health issues and this adds to the underlying unease of the book. A side note, the text on the page is tiny!! Made me feel like I was getting old."
— Andy H. (4/5)
Hyped up too much
"A brilliantly creepy start had me turning pages nonstop, but the story soon became a tangled web of unanswered questions. Characters, timelines, and mysterious events pop up without closure. Atmosphere: chilling. Payoff: missing. The book left me frustrated and unsettled."
— Dolly P. (1/5)

Interesting plot, but unsatisfying ending
"The story was interesting and there was a lot of well-written suspense! I really enjoyed the premise! However, I think the ending was too rushed. It seemed like they were trying to leave it vague to add to the suspense and mystery, but (at least to me), it seemed like there was a lot of build-up for an ending that wasn’t that satisfying and also wasn’t really explained. Vagueness can be great if done properly, but this felt like there were too many plot points that they didn’t know how to bring together (aka too many loose ends)."
— Katie (3/5)
eerie!
"We Used to Live Here by Marcus Kliewer is a chilling, inventive horror debut that grips from the first page. With eerie atmosphere, psychological twists, and a house full of secrets, it’s haunting and unforgettable."

"Absolutely recommend this author had a way to really immerse you into the story, and after it will roll around and linger for a while with the questions unanswered. It definitely left this eerie feeling for a horror book. Just amazing"
