Reviews

A read for animal lovers

"A thoughtful read with lots of interesting history and insights. Perfect for any vegan or animal lover."

Fantastic

"This book was real. In a time where everyone's opinion is either right or wrong, this book felt like an objective look at the food industry. Our author, Jonathan, brings us on a journey of how that steak ends up on your plate showcasing the horrific factory farms and the way small farmers are trying to fight back. He features transcripts from both sides of the argument (for and against meat) and does a good job of understanding arguments like ""food is culture"". Jonathan really gives the impression that he's there with you as you two try and make sense of what's what in an industry of secrets and corruption. This book was amazing and should be read by anyone who eats meat. Even if it doesn't change your diet to any degree, it is important to learn about the current food industry and the results of your actions when you choose meat."

Best book I’ve read on this topic by far!

"I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!! I would have never imagined things like those mentioned in the book, that are done to non human animals! If you haven’t read this book and you’re still eating animals, you have to read it! It’s important for everyone to know what is truly being put into their body and why no one is acting on it! Best book I’ve read, turned vegan ASAP!"

I absolutely loved it

"I could not put this book down! It’s amazing!! It gives all the details of things we don’t know about factory farms. I like how the book has so much information!!! It definitely has some sad parts which I appreciated because of how insightful they were. I recommend this to anyone!!"

I genuinely want everyone living in North America to read this book.

"As an author of novels such as Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Jonathan Safran Foer knows the value of narrative, that humans are moved by and communicate through narrative, and he uses that to educate and to wrestle with a very big and important topic that most people meet with avoidance and forgetting in the face of shame and guilt. He is not only open to listening to other perspectives, but actively includes them in his book. He presents his personal journey of learning and decision-making and ultimately allows the reader to reach their own decision based on the story of his journey. He didn't start writing this book to be an argument for vegetarianism, but it becomes one because of what he has learned and how he personally thinks he needs to confront that knowledge. It's up to the reader to decide what to do with this shared learning experience. As for me, I agree with him, and want nothing to do with factory farms."

Informative read regardless of your position about the issue

"Regardless of your position about the issue, Safran Foer delivers the findings of his research into the meat and poultry industry in a balanced manner, which makes this book a valuable read. Although I'm not vegan or vegetarian, this book made me think deeply about where my meat and poultry comes from. After reading this book, I find myself pausing a bit more before I take a bite of meat/poultry and have set a personal goal to reduce my meat/poultry intake each week."

"Insightful, very interesting"

This book changed everything

"This book was a mandatory read for me in a reading class. Obviously, the professor had a secret agenda and I'm glad it worked on me. This book should be required reading everywhere in America. It is full of facts (sources always cited, so no bull****) presented to you in the cleverest way possible. I ADORE how this book is contructed and how the information is presented to the read. It is also anecdotal is parts, and funny. Whether you consider going vegetarian, vegan or just reducing your meat/dairy intake, whether you have already made that change or even if you are a meat eater through and through, I would highly suggest you give this a shot. If anything, it will make you understand things you probably never knew and you will make better decisions afterwards. I keep two copies at home to always have one ready to lend to anyone who will let me convince them."

Eye-Opening and Important

"This book reveals a lot of hidden truths about animal agriculture. I was already vegan for over three years when I picked this book up, and I still learned a ton of new information. I found it difficult to read at times, as the writing got a bit deep and philosophical for me, but the author struck a good balance between deep thinking and presenting interesting new information that kept me reading. Would recommend to anyone interested in learning about where their food comes from!"
