The Side Gardener is the story of how Rosie Daykin—a bestselling and award-winning cookbook author who happens to garden on the side—turned a languishing patch of land beside her home into an informal working garden.
With love and attention, the garden blossomed with a bounty of fresh vegetables and fruit, beautiful flowers for cutting, and even a few eggs from three very naughty chickens. Rosie shares her notes on how she designed her garden and nurtured it to life, along with the simple recipes she created to let the freshly grown produce shine. Inside, you’ll find sides and snacks, salads and soups, mains and desserts, all shown through the captivating lens of revered British photographer Andrew Montgomery.
Whether the produce you use is from your garden or local market, Rosie’s elegant recipes will help you celebrate the honest flavors of fruits and vegetables. Filled with witty anecdotes and gorgeous photography, The Side Gardener is all the inspiration you need to create and cook from a garden of your own.
Heather’s Review
“Everything about The Side Gardener by the amazing Rosie Daykin makes it a treasure. It is visually stunning: the cover, the paper used, and the rich photography make clear that Rosie has put her heart and soul into this book. But the visual delight is just the setup for the food itself. I defy anyone to try The Zucchini Noodle Salad or the Turkey Burger With Rhubarb Ketchup or the Creamy Cheesy Kale Bake and not find yourself craving each again and again. And so it goes with every recipe in the book. Trust me, this is an indulgence worth the purchase. ”

Perfect cookbook with recipes straight from the garden!
"Perfect gift for my mom who loves gardening! While browsing, I flipped through a couple pages of this cookbook and knew immediately that it would be a hit. It’s very rare for me to find a book that I could see myself cooking nearly every single recipe from and I knew it would be true for my mom too."

“The Side Gardener”: A Cozy, Garden-Inspired Cookbook Worth Savoring
"This book is not only visually stunning—with gorgeous photography—but it's also full of delicious, approachable recipes that celebrate fresh, seasonal ingredients. The Risotto with Leeks, Peas & Spinach was a standout hit with my family, and the Fluffy Stuffed Potatoes were equally well-loved. Next on my list is the Potato Fennel Gratin, which I’m excited to try. I'm truly impressed by the creativity and warmth in this cookbook, and I look forward to cooking my way through many more of its recipes."
