What book feels like home to you?

"Twilight by Stephenie Meyer, because it was the book that brought us together in fandom, and Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins, because it was the book that made us want to write romance novels."

Which living author do you most admire? 

Lauren: "Lisa Kleypas, for writing historical romance in a way that captures a sense of historical nostalgia along with the crisp brightness of the contemporary and layering in some of the best and hottest heroes to ever grace the page." 

Christina: "Suzanne Collins, for coming in, routinely dropping fictional bombs that enthrall millions of people, and then disappearing again."

What’s your most unusual writing habit?

"We don’t actually have a lot of strange or unusual habits when it comes to writing, but the fact that we coauthor our books is probably what would feel unusual to most writers!"

What’s the first thing you do after finishing a draft?

Lauren: "Start thinking about the next project!" 

Christina: "Take a few days to do all the real-life things I put off in that final rush of drafting and edits, then give my brain some chill time." 

Describe your writing process in one word?

“Flexible” 

What is your favourite word to use in prose?

Christina: "Frantic." 

Lauren: "Devour." 

Where do you most like to write? 

Christina: "I used to only be able to work at the desk in my office. Then a few years ago I was diagnosed with ADHD (I swear everyone in my life collectively nodded like, yep, that tracks) and now I do my best work on my couch or backyard, surrounded by puppies." 

Lauren: "Anywhere in my house. Usually on my couch with a dog or three curled up against me."

What moment in your life felt straight out of a novel? 

Lauren: "The meet-cute with my husband in an elevator headed down to the research labs, where I was all awkward flirting, and he was oblivious." 

Christina: "I have one in a cornfield that could either be the start of a romance or a horror novel. Luckily, it wasn’t the latter. WHEW." 

What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever researched for a story? 

Lauren: "The interior décor and layout of a sex club." 

Christina: "How far a human body needs to fall to kill it."

If your characters could critique you, what would they say? 

"Probably that we’re too hard on ourselves." 

If you could swap places with another author, who would that be? 

"Our first reaction is “Absolutely no one,” because it would mean we wouldn’t have the joy of reading their words as readers. But on second thought, we wouldn’t mind having written Fourth Wing, haha." 

What emotion do you find hardest to write about? 

"Loneliness." 

Which book is your most treasured possession? 

Lauren: "My ARC of A Court of Thorns and Roses." 

Christina: "A signed copy of Twilight."

"How long do you have? Stephanie Perkins, Jandy Nelson, Lisa Kleypas, Kate Clayborn, Ali Hazelwood, Sarah Maclean, Nikki Payne, Lisa Jewell, Liane Moriarty, Wally Lamb, V.E. Schwab, Barbara Kingsolver, Shari Lapena, Richard Osman, Shirlene Obuobi, Riley Sager, Stephenie Meyer, Mary Roach, Suzanne Collins, Elin Hilderbrand, Peter Swanson, and on and on."

What’s the strangest thing in your workspace? 

Lauren: "I have 15 tubes of hand moisturizer on my desk, and I have no idea why I keep bringing new ones." 

Christina: "BTS dolls, each of them holding a tiny romance novel." 

What book title best describes your life? 

"Our next one, which hasn’t been announced yet."
