The fan-favorite danmei/Boys’ Love novel series originally released in Chinese!
In this historical tale of war and political intrigue, an intense relationship burns between the son of an infamous traitor and the vengeful nobleman who despises him...at first.
Shen Zechuan is the eighth son of the traitorous Prince of Jianxing, a man who doomed his cities and people to destruction at the hands of the foreign enemy. As the only surviving member of his reviled line, Shen Zechuan is dragged to the capital in chains. He bears the hatred of the nation, but no one's hate burns hotter than that of Xiao Chiye, the youngest son of the powerful Prince of Libei.
Xiao Chiye would love nothing more than to see Shen Zechuan dead--but against all odds, he clings to life. Rather than succumb to his family's disgrace, he becomes a thorn in Xiao Chiye's side, clawing his way into the cutthroat political world of the capital. Yet as these two bitter enemies beat against the bonds of their fate, they find themselves kindred spirits, unlikely allies...and perhaps something more.
This Chinese historical fiction tale built around the desire between two men (danmei) has attracted fans from around the world and inspired a comic and an audio drama. The Seven Seas English-language edition includes exclusive new covers and interior illustrations.

Ballad of Sword and Wine: Qiang Jin Jiu (Novel) Vol. 1
"If you’ve ever been in the mood for a sweet couple and an intricate and politics heavy plot then this is for you. I adore the main couple, they’re incredibly romantic and the illustrations of them has altered my brain chemistry. The main plot is very interesting and while heavy on political themes, it’s not super difficult to follow."
— Tawny (5/5)
They weren't wrong!
"This story is amazing and I can't wait to get more for my collection. It was recommended to me from folks in China and they were right!"

Great danmei series, must read if you want to explore ancient Chinese fiction politics and military
"If you are into fictional political drama and military drama, and also love BL, then this book is for you. It is quite a heavy read compared to other danmei, but there’s a reason why this series is really popular"
— LK K. (5/5)
Amazing book
"Very interesting and engaging book, it can be slightly confusing at times but overall an amazing read"

Er-gongzi, you beast!
"One of the best historical novels I ever read. It's filled with intrigue, politics, and scheming, and the romance is a true enemies-to-lovers, with the main characters wanting to kill each other. This is just the first book, but it is so good and the ending killed me ;). Everyone is the book has their own agendas (specially the protagonist), and few can be truly trusted. On the translation, I think is good, but I don't speak Mandarin so I cannot really comment on that. At least there is no super confusing terms and they do explain some of them that may not translate to well in English. There's also a glossary in the back for the characters, terms and other things if someone needs it. In short, worth buying, worth reading (if you like historical dramas, with lots of politics)."

Pick this book up on a whim but I'm glad I did
"In the danmei community, this book is highly praised. I didnt know what to expected but I am hooked from this first book. It has the usually wuxia court politics and messy love story but it has the spice too!"
— Emily (4/5)
You might need to take notes
"This court drama needs your full attention but it earns it. Shen LanZhou’s journey from being nearly kicked to death for a crime his absent father may have committed, to enacting his ambitions is worth your time."
— Alexandra (5/5)
