A Chilling Classic That Still Hits Hard

"Stephen King’s Carrie is a masterclass in tension and psychological horror. The slow buildup, paired with deeply human themes of bullying, shame, and rage, makes the story feel disturbingly real. Even knowing where it’s headed, the final act is impossible to put down. Short, sharp, and unforgettable—this book proves why King became a legend."

Classic Horror with Rough Edges

"You can tell this was Stephen King’s debut—there are moments that feel a bit uneven—but the raw emotion and originality shine through. The horror is more psychological than graphic, which I appreciated. It’s unsettling in a quiet, creeping way and sets the stage for much of King’s later work."

Too Bleak for My Taste

"While I respect the impact Carrie has had on horror literature, I didn’t enjoy the reading experience. The constant cruelty and hopeless tone made it difficult to get through, and I never felt truly engaged. Well-written, but emotionally exhausting in a way that didn’t feel rewarding."

Not bad, not amazing

"First time reading horror and Stephen King, and I gotta say it wasn‘t that bad but not as amazing as I was led to believe it to be. *Possible spoiler alert (idk if it's considered a spoiler but be warned)* I don't know if it's personal preference since I've yet to read other horror books but I liked the parts where people are analyzing Carrie's case better than the actual story. Though the story itself isn't bad at all since it draws a lot of real life bullying, it's also the issue I have with the book. The story felt too close to real life and then I'm hit with the supernatural element. Perhaps its personal preference to like stories that either lean more into the supernatural or keep it closer to reality. Also there is a certain writing style in this book which I assume are Carrie'e inner thoughts or impulsive thoughts and it felt quite awkward to read. You'd be in the middle of a sentence then what I assume to be Carries's thoughts interject with a couple of words then the sentence continues. It's very jarring, especially since Carrie's interjection starts on a new line and then the original sentence continues on a new line as well. But overall the book wasn't bad, I just have minor and personal gripes with elements of it. I haven't read another Stephen King book yet so I can't compare it but I assume this is a good introduction to him since it's also quite short."
