Great

"I enjoyed the book. As this was the first James Bond book, it was great seeing where the Bond franchise began. #plumreview"

A good start

"This is one of the better James Bond novels to get started in the series with,. If you don't enjoy this one you can stop or try a different bond author. It was written a very long time ago so you should expect every little thing to be dated. Also, if you're expecting it to be just like the movie, it's not."

Unexpectedly amazing

"I had attempted a James Bond book by Ian Fleming last summer and I found it rather dry for my taste. However I picked this book up at an amazing price at my bookstore and figured I would give this a go. Some parts were more difficult to get through but the story was intriguing and kept you on edge. Le Chiffre is dramatic and the atmosphere of where the events take place is thrilling. Better start to the Bond series."

Taylor (3/5)

Why does he do it?

"To risk his life time & time again, 007 serves his country as a secret agent and winds up in the most precarious positions- Casino Royale is yet another chapter that has a peculiar villain with torture on the mind, and Bond always the ladies man ready to thwart his plans. 007 must love his job. Why else would he do it?"

Great Summer Read

"I read this book recently and had pretty low expectations of it. I have always enjoyed the works of Tom Clancy, as these are books usually good for those days where easy reading is in order. I enjoy political thrillers but wouldn't consider the genre literary genius by any standard. However, Casino Royal was quite different than the film in that the James Bond of Ian Fleming's works usually is portrayed with a number of vulnerabilities as well often facing the challenges where he doesn't happen to be in the right place at the right time, and often has to race for time to complete his objective. The romantic interests are more than a fling in the novels and are often complicated relationships between vunerable parties"

Such a fantastic book!!

"Right from the outset, this book is engaging, fun and exciting! Loved reading after having seen the Daniel Craig film, was able to visualize what was happening"

Good Read But Not As Polished As His Later Work

"Great story but at times I found it a little difficult to get through"

Takes a While To Get Going

In 2008, The Times ranked Ian Fleming fourteenth on its list of the ‘Fifty Greatest British Writers since 1945’, an accolade awarded following the amazing success of the James Bond novels. Born in 1908, Ian Fleming was educated at Eton, Sandhurst and at the universities of Munich and Geneva, and went on to careers in banking and journalism. During the Second World War, he was a senior naval intelligence officer; in 1945 he returned to journalism. His varied and colourful experience of life informed his writing and give James Bond, his colleagues and his adversaries very real and believable personalities. After living for some years in Jamaica, he died back in England in 1964.
