"A Time Twisting Delight" —Reese’s Book Club

"Think Eleanor Oliphant meets time travel . . . Uber-particular Cassandra discovers she can travel back in time, so she does what any of us would do: She goes back and tries to fix her mistakes. But she discovers that she might be focusing on the wrong things." Katie Couric Media

“A unique, neurodiverse take on time travel.” —Tor.com

“A hilarious, introspective, time-hopping journey with an unforgettable, neurodivergent heroine . . . Cassandra's first-person narration is caustic, vulnerable, and laugh-out-loud funny . . . perfect for fans of imaginative, intelligent speculative fiction.” —Shelf Awareness

“What feels at first like an unconventional romantic comedy develops into something quite different and extraordinary . . . Smale effectively brings her audience into Cassandra’s singular mind and along on her journey in what feels like a brave voyage of discovery.” —Bookreporter.com

“Smale combines well-developed characters with laugh-out-loud humor as she slowly reveals truths about past events, current troubles, and her protagonist's undiagnosed autism. Readers will be drawn into Cassie’s life and won’t want to leave. This neurodiverse tale is ripe for discussion and makes a great read-alike for The Rosie Project (2013) by Graeme Simsion, Oona Out of Order (2020) by Margarita Montimore, and The Boys (2022) by Katie Hafner.” Booklist (STARRED)

“Witty, touching and totally absorbing. Cassandra is a funny and sharply-observed character who I loved spending time with.” —Graeme Simsion, New York Times bestselling author of The Rosie Project

“A pure delight from start to finish. Cassandra Dankworth is a character as unique as she is endearing: hilariously prickly and unapologetically clever yet delicate and tragically misunderstood. Cassandra in Reverse is an unexpected take on time travel, exploring the challenges of human connection. Humorous and insightful, this is an absolute gem of a novel.” —Margarita Montimore, USA Today bestselling author of Oona Out of Order

“A glorious testament to the transformative power of being our own true selves. It’s a brilliantly clever, twisty story that dazzles with its wit whilst touching our hearts. . . . A hugely entertaining book with an important message, Cassandra in Reverse is a triumph!” —Sarah Haywood, New York Times bestselling author of The Cactus

“Sharp, funny, quirky, insightful and so very, very relatable.” —Joanne Harris, New York Times bestselling author of Chocolat and The Girl with No Shadow

“Instantly addictive and totally electric. Cassandra in Reverse is a gorgeous tale of all kinds of love, and dazzlingly sharp and witty. Cassie is endearing, brilliant, and Holly Smale’s writing is a breath of fresh air. If only I could time travel and experience this story for the first time again!” —Beth Reekles, USA Today bestselling author of The Kissing Booth

“Hilarious, insightful, and bright with the whole spectrum of human emotion, Cassandra in Reverse reinvigorates the time loop trope with the perfect match of character and concept. Utter genius!” —Catriona Silvey, internationally bestselling author of Meet Me In Another Life

“A dazzling accomplishment—a book as intricate as it is wise; deftly plotted, deeply human, wildly original, and gut-warmingly funny. A book set to shift paradigms and make heads and hearts pop with joy. Holly Smale is a GENIUS, make no mistake.” —Emma Jane Unsworth, internationally bestselling author of Grown Ups

Unexpected but good!

"From the summary I didn’t understand it was about a girl on the spectrum. But overall I really enjoyed discovering more about something I had no prior experience in."

A must read for diversity

"This is not my usual read. It is the first time I have read a book through the lens of a character that so openly identifies with a disability (autism). I really enjoyed the perspective and the story was a great journey of self discovery."

DeeJaye (4/5)

Really fun read!

"Loving this book and the authors writing style! You become the character and get a real sense of the inside of her head."

Cassie (5/5)

With or without autism, we all try to understand and fit into this world in our own ways

"This book gave me a look inside the mind of Cassandra who (I believe) is autistic. Her struggles to understand the world around her and fit into it makes me think of my own struggles to do just the same. With or without autism or any other conditions that make you different, the world can be a challenging place to understand, with its often-fickle inhabitants making things more confusing for some of us. Cassandra's narrative of how she understands her circumstances and her attempts to make things right makes me root for her. This book also made me realize that we are all different in some ways, and understanding others (empathy) is important in making this world a kinder and more loving place. Fun and informative read!"

Uniquely Different

"I’ve never read a storyline like this and was immediately hooked! A unique read I couldn’t put down."

Lisa (5/5)

Such an interesting, quirky, fun read

"This book is a fascinating read featuring a unique and unconventional protagonist. It blends the concepts of Oona Out of Order and Sliding Doors in an intriguing way. However, it goes beyond the typical time travel and stuck-in-a-loop narrative. It delves into themes of second chances, personal growth, and discovering oneself, exploring the depths of one's capabilities, dreams, and potential. The plot captured my interest, and Cassandra is an entirely original character with a distinct perspective. It's easy to form a connection with her and witness her transformative journey. After experiencing a day where she loses everything she holds dear - her job, her home, her boyfriend - time begins to rewind, offering her the opportunity to make different choices and follow varied paths leading to different outcomes. Ultimately, she must uncover her true identity and determine her desired path in life. Her namesake, Cassandra, a priestess from Greek mythology bound to utter truthful prophecies that go unheard, adds an additional layer of significance to her character. The book incorporates numerous references to Greek mythology, reflecting Cassandra's deep interest in the subject. While this does slow down the pace, it adds a philosophical aspect to the story. The recurring time-loop theme may become monotonous at times, but it remains an integral part of the narrative."

Great READ!!!

"An excellent read, and semi-autobiographical. WIll make you laugh, cry, and everything in between :)"

Sandra L. (5/5)

Not my favourite

"I found the main character hard to relate to. The Greek mythology only complicated the story. The basic idea of the story is good but the extras made it a hard read"

BookClub G. (3/5)

Groundhog Day. . . goes to Ancient Greece

"Cute story. A little too on the nose, but something that was an enjoyable read."

Katie (4/5)

Great title! I hear there's a different title in the UK. But I'm not bothered.

"Reading text by a woman with autism as she discovers she has autism is very interesting. You get to figure it out at the same time as her"
