A Unique Read
"I feel like the odd one out with my take on this novel. It left me with the feeling of, "it's me, not you". Everyone raves about this novel. EVERYONE. And yet, I can't help but be disappointed that I didn't have that similar response with my reading experience of this book. I honestly think it's because of personal preferences. I don't enjoy and/or play video games and for me, this book resembles one. Plus, the story is just a little too 'odd' and farfetched from what I typically read. However, I can respect and appreciate how different this story is. The author created something very different to what is being published and there definitely is an audience for it judging by its popularity. While reading this book, I couldn't help but think of a few other books and how they are similar in some ways. First, this book really reminded me of an adult novel similar to the "Artemis Fowl" series. I couldn't help but think of that series time and time again while reading this book. I also thought of "The Martian" with a similar humour in the writing style. Lastly, I haven't read it yet but I also thought of "Ready Player One" which may or may not be similar with video game influences. Although this wasn't a favourite read for me, I'm happy to see so many other people reacting positively and could see how this book is helping others to pick up reading again."
