A chilling thriller, perfect for fans of Karin Slaughter and Lisa Gardner, exploring the dark side of police culture and family trauma.
Bree knew that life married to a beat cop would be tough, especially in the crime-infested city of East Bernheim, but she believes they will be fine living in "the Burner" even after she has their first child. Family life is manageable until one day crime follows them home, threatening their safety.
At a loss of how to keep his family safe and keep his job, Jake agrees to stretch their finances and move an hour away, to a bigger house in a somewhat better neighborhood. Their life seems to improve until Bree, heavily pregnant with their second child, begins to hear voices and suffer strange dreams. And then when tragedy strikes on the job, Jake enters a spiral of guilt and grief that degrades his grip on reality.
Bree, isolated and struggling, must protect her children from the one person she thought would always keep them safe. She and Jake are haunted in every way, and not just by whatever is lurking inside the house. A thriller that tackles toxic masculinity in police culture and trauma, Every Fall will have you on the edge of your seat.

"i enjoyed the thriller aspect of the novel as well as the hint of supernatural mystery. very intriguing all the way through, i read it in 3 days. its a cozy read, but pretty dark and the husband is a huge red flag so it was hard to read from his pov sometimes and have compassion for him despite his actions."

Crime, mental health issues and adultery
"It begins with a thriller story, bad guys at large, a tired cop, then a spooky house and an affair that takes too much place in the story and a final spiral of mental health."

Excellent Read!
"Wow! Where to begin. . . . Such a good book!! I read from start to finish in one day I was that hooked! Well written, keeps you guessing, and love that Angela is a Canadian author. Looking forward to her next one - the snippet of the first chapter in the back of this book has me excited for when the Bone Trail comes out. Excellent read!"

A Fast Paced Thriller with some Ghostly Moments.
"EVERY FALL is a fast-paced ride through so many facets of real life: there's a charming--turned grumpy ass--cop who, while on the street, you'd want on your side, but you wouldn't want him at your dinner table; postpartum realities with the spouse saying things like. . . what does she do all day. . . grrr. . . and so much more. These main characters in Angela Douglas' debut novel EVERY FALL were written and portrayed without apology or explanation because they are just living their ""normal"". The cop in the story deals with stuff like murder, infidelity, drugs, alcoholism, gangs, death, the cesspool of humanity, coupled by the mistrust of his own mind/horrors/recollections which sets the stage for a thrilling read. He's also stuffed within a toxic environment of swagger and masculinity where emotions and seeking help are seen as weakness. The wife in the story is dealing with her own issues of having two children under the age of two, isolation, lack of support, and a spouse who's done a 180 since getting married. Besides the relationship issues and police life experiences that keep you turning the page, it just so happens that the new-to-them family home is infested with ghosts/paranormal activity that further aggravates the relationship and prevents the ability to move on. Just like the toxic environment of the police community, the ghosts are paralyzing and cause them to question their own sanity. For me, the ghosts were like the festering aftermath of trauma, much like that suffered by the husband cop. The two mirrored the inability of either faction from healing, being able to break free of their chains, and embrace those around them. Kinda creepy but very effective. I would highly recommend this book and very much look forward to what Douglas writes next. Five Stars."
