Top 3 Series of All Time

"If you like Throne of Glass and/or the Grishaverse, this series is exactly what you need to buy next. The world building is insane and intricate and absolutely amazing, and the characters are some of my favourites I’ve ever followed in a series. Throne of Glass readers, this has two Aelins as its main characters; one seems as if Aelin lived and grew into her powers (and kind of went a little evil) and the other is a literal Celaena-to-Aelin story arc. Their arcs from the first to third book are amazing, and the morally grey-ness of them is to die for. One thing I absolutely loved was that we got the villain’s perspective (and not just Corien-iykyk). Stunning universe and interconnected-ness, and the romance was something I loved. There’s enough of it to see a romantic sub-plot, but it never overpowers the main storyline, and the TENSION!! (Also, it’s a non-hereronormative world with amazing diversity and representation) When I read Throne of Glass and the Grishaverse for the first time, there was one specific feeling of pure awe and love for the books and everything they made and contained. Since then, this series is the only one of many MANY books I’ve read that made me feel that same feeling. Will recommend till the day I die, a must read."

it was just … okay

"Not bad nor good, this book didn’t live up to my expectations. The plot was murky at times and both characters are mary sue (although eliana is far more interesting than rielle, who at times is infuriating). I could shorten this book into half its pages and it would still make sense. So much filler, so much action … but no time for development or any meaningful conversation. It was just … okay."

Well written and intricately woven!

"4. 5 stars I found that this book was intriguing from the outset! A disclaimer is that this book is very complex and quite political, that isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The magic system evolves naturally and Legrand manages to show us rather than tell us how the world is set up. I was confused at first by the switching POVs but I think it added a lot to the story. This story is set up so intricately and follows two unlikeable characters. I love how selfish and self absorbed both Rielle and Eliana are. Both using whatever they can to get their way. I personally love watching these kinds of characters evolve. They are more realistic than the typical chosen one or reluctant hero. I love to see female MCs that are just not good people. They aren’t necessarily innately bad, just not what one would call good. I also love that there is LGBTQ+ representation and BIPOC representation in this book- and that both LGBTQ+ and BIPOC characters aren’t treated as a plot device to prove the authors wokeness. While I do feel like this is flushed out more in later books, it was a good start for me."

Great First Book to this Series

"High fantasy is a genre that people either love or hate. I happen to love it! One of the limitations of the high fantasy genre is the length and detail/backstory of these books (along with the multitude of characters . . . LOTR is the classic in this genre). Furyborn struck the right balance between detail and adventure making it a high fantasy novel that appeals to readers whether they are true fans of this genre or not. The biggest win for me as a reader is character development. I'm looking for books that have strong protagonists. Because traditionally high fantasy has male protagonists, I really love books that focus on strong female characters. Claire Legend did not disappoint. Both Rielle and Eliana are characters with enough depth to hook me. Legend weaves an complex, engaging story in this opening book to her trilogy. This is a truly epic novel. The book ends with enough closure to satisfy the reader but also to spark a desire for the next book in the series. A great start to what may be a new classic in the fantasy genre."
