The 50th anniversary edition of the spellbinding classic that started it all, from the #1 New York Times bestselling author.
This dazzling special edition features a jacket with foil and embossing, sprayed edges, designed endpapers, a new foreword from Leigh Bardugo, an afterword by Christopher Rice, and never-before-seen bonus pages from the original manuscript.
Here are the confessions of a vampire: a hypnotic, shocking, and chillingly sensual story of Louis de Pointe du Lac's first two hundred years as one of the living dead. We begin on the night when Louis, disaffected and reluctant heir to a Louisiana plantation, is turned into a vampire by Lestat. Radiant, petulant, and powerful, Lestat becomes Louis’ companion and urges him to embrace the hungers and feelings of vampirism: the detachment, the hardened will, the "superior" sensual pleasures. As Louis struggles to retain the last residue of human feeling within him, he discovers must commit the ultimate act: to break away from his creator and discover the new world to which he belongs—whatever the cost.
This is a story of danger and flight, of loyalty and treachery, of gaining humanity and losing it, and of the extraordinary power of the senses.

“If you surrender and go with her . . . you have surrendered to enchantment, as in a voluptuous dream.”—Boston Globe “A chilling, thought-provoking tale, beautifully frightening, sensuous, and utterly unnerving.”—Hartford Courant

A vampire’s story

— Simba (5/5)
Missing pages!
"The book is missing a significant amount of pages. I was confused on why the story finished so abruptly and when I googled the summary of the story I realized a big chunk of the ending is missing!"

Solid introduction to Anne Rice's work
"I grew up loving the Interview With a Vampire movie and only recently got into reading so I thought, why not give it a read and see how the book compares? I ended up really enjoying it! It may just be because I haven't watched the movie adaptation in a while, but I thought there was a lot of information you got in this story that was lost in the movie. The characters felt real and morally grey/dynamic whereas I don't recall the movie diving into that. The first 3rd was slow for me because I knew what was going to happen. Overall, I think this was a great introduction to Anne Rice's work and I can't wait to read the next book in the Vampire Chronicles series, The Vampire Lestat."
— Maddy. C. (4/5)

An erotic tale with no dearth of intriguing characters
"Love this edition of the book, I searched far and wide to find a beautiful cover as I do want the series to be displayed on my bookshelves. Louis is at times, an insufferable narrator, but still remains captivating. The book was impossible to put down at times and I look forward to reading the remainder of the series."
