"A story so magical, so playful, so harrowing and astonishing that it will make you believe imagination might be the first step [to believing in God].... Every page offers something of tension, humanity, surprise or even ecstasy."
The Times

"Pi is Martel's triumph. He is understated and ironic, utterly believable and pure.... The whole fantastic voyage carries hints of The Old Man and the Sea and the magic realism of Amado and Marquez and the absurdity of Beckett."
The Globe and Mail

"Martel has created a funny, wise and highly original look at what it means to be human."
Chatelaine

"A tale of disaster at sea coupled with miraculous survival--a boys' adventure for grown-ups."
Margaret Atwood, The Sunday Times

"An impassioned defense of zoos, a death-defying trans-Pacific sea adventure à la Kon-Tiki, and a hilarious shaggy-dog story.... This audacious novel manages to be all of these."
The New Yorker

Reviews

A voyage between faith and imagination. Eye catching and memorable.

"Life of Pi is an imaginative tale of survival and faith. This book blurs the lines between reality and myth, leaving you questioning what to believe."

Life of Pi

"Life of Pi is a unique mix of adventure and philosophy. It’s about a boy stranded at sea with a tiger, but it’s really a story about survival, faith, and the power of storytelling. Thought-provoking yet easy to read."

Wonderful Story

"I've read this a couple of times in the past, lent it out a few times, own three different copies, seen the movie, and have recently re-read this book. Yah, you can say I like it. I urge you to feel what I feel every time I read it!! #IndigoEmployee"

Struggled to get through

"Was not overly exciting but had to read and analyze for a class."

Rose (1/5)

Slow read

"This was a book I really had to force myself to read. I found section went on much too long and the back story didn't really connect with the middle. It seems like Martel was trying to get in as much as possible without consideration of how it affected reading and if details were necessary to the story. The ending was disappointing. I won't give it away, but it left me sad and disappointed I read the book."

Mpeters (3/5)

Good book

"I found that parts of this book were a bit boring, however there is beautiful imagery and some thrilling parts throughout. It really made me think this was a real story, starting with the author's note right to the end! Loved Pi's relationship with Richard Parker!"

AVIS (5/5)
