Amazing graphic novel

"This book presents the history of Louis Riel powerfully in a graphic novel format. It is interesting, well-illustrated, and fun to read."

Richard L. (5/5)

Good book, bad company

"Did you know that Chapters supports scholarships for soldiers from the Israel Defense Force? Every time I look at this book now, I think of how the HESEG Foundation pays for youth to commit genocide and kill children by starvation"

Chapters C. (5/5)

Wish I had this in high school

"I would not say that this was riveting or anything, but I WOULD have found this easier to read and learn from back when I learned about Louis Riel in school WAY back when. The comic strip style is much more engaging and easier to commit to memory :) #IndigoEmployee"

Faerie711 (4/5)

Review

"I read this graphic novel in one sitting and really enjoyed it. I really enjoyed the art style of the author, especially the way he would depict Sir John A. MacDonald. One specific scene always sticks out to me when MacDonald is discussing how to get more funds to the Canadian Pacific Railway Project and his shadow is evil looking. Overall, I think it’s also a good introduction to the story of Louis Riel who is a complex and important figure in Canadian history."

Nicole (5/5)

Captivating True Story

"Wonderful depiction of the story of Louis Riel, Canadian History is often very dry and boring and therefore goes over looked but reading the story in a comic format really helps catch the attention and hopefully more young people are able to become educated on Louis Riel through mediums like this."

Jesse (5/5)

Good Resource

"Great to have on the shelf in school, not entirely accurate though."

Cc (3/5)

Very cool!

"What better way to learn/reference history than a comic? In all seriousness though, this is a well done graphic novel."

Whiplash (3/5)

Chester Brown's masterpiece

"Chester Brown's masterpiece, he won't come close to eclipsing it, especially with his reputation of being kinda a creep outside of his work on Louis Riel. The artwork is awesome (almost in a classic kind of way) and the story is great and important to Canada. I may have to study some Canadian history to see how accurate it is but from what I remember it seemed pretty accurate/fair."

ParkRoyalSam (5/5)

Not very enjoyable

"Historically significant but not a fun or engaging read in my opinion,"

Jamie (1/5)

great

"i remember enjoying this a lot when i read it for school years ago"

"If you love to read a gripping story, if you are awed by the talent of an artist, then look no further: Chester Brown's Louis Riel is comix history in the making, and with it, history never looked so good." - The Globe and Mail Book Review

"The starkly told story . . . of a crucial figure in Canada's history - yet one whom most Americans have probably never heard of. It's a credit to Brown's plainspoken artistry and flair for narrative that it's a page-turner till the end." - The Boston Phoenix

"This is an ingenious comic and a major achievement." - Publishers Weekly, starred review
