A heartwarming tale about food scarcity

"A heartwarming tale about food scarcity told with sensitivity. The young narrator donates his own can of Zoodelicious noodles to the food drive, only to find that it comes back to him and his mom. “Are we the people in need?” he asks. A story of giving and receiving with grace and kindness."

Great book for class

"Leading into the holiday season and with it being back to school time this was a great read with the kids in my program. Helps open up their eyes, and we had a discussion about what kinds of fundraisers we would like to do this year."

Wonderful book!

"One Can is a beautifully written book that I would highly recommend to anyone who wants to read a story filled with compassion and kindness. I hope that it finds its way into schools across Canada as children have much to learn from its message."

Touching story

"‘One Can’ will tug at your heart strings, following a food drive to collect 100 cans, and a little’s boy’s generous heart as he learns about his situation and his sharing community."

To Each According to Need

"Every school does a food and/or clothing drive during various points of the year and each class talks about giving to those in need, so this book will feel very relatable. With more and more families requiring some assistance in these times, One Can is very thought-provoking in its treatment of being the family in need of help. For any teachers out there, this book features math concepts of counting using a hundreds carpet and counting by tens."

""One Can"" show kids how to be generous

"Iconic author Eric Walters and renowned picture book and early chapter writer Lana Button team up with award winning illustrator Isabelle Malenfant to create an authentic story of empathy and resilience. All of us will fall on some kind of hard times in our lifetime. How do we armour our children for these times when we have so much? Here's a book that can open discussion as to what it means to have less and yet still have kindness and generosity in our hearts. A wonderful affirmation to parents who shield their children from harsh realities even as they struggle."

A sweet, important book

"Every child needs this story, no matter whether they are in a season of giving or receiving. Beautifully written and illustrated, this story is perfect for classrooms, libraries, and laps."

Encourages empathy and understanding.

"A perfectly lovely book that invites discussion and empathy. This reader shed a few tears while reading (which also made for a good kiddo chat!)"
