Just ok

"The characters are rather stereotypical. While the story line was fine, there was no real depth. Historical events appeared to be thrown in but not fully incorporated. What was really disappointing, in a book about the struggles of women in the 1960's and the basis of the bookclub being the book by Betty Friedan - The Feminine Mystique, Bostwick feels it necessary that Margaret states she found """"Friedan prickly, defensive and a bit arrogant"""". The entire story was based on the women in the book club supporting one another. It seemed rather petty for Bostwick to include this description. Supposedly without Friedan's book there would not have been a the book club for troublesome women."

Enjoyable read that makes you think

"Had lots of fun reading this book. It really brings you back to the 1950s with all its blessings and complications for women living during that time."

A great bookclub read

"Loved this book, the characters are so well developed and I really feel like I’m travelling in time reading this ."

A good read

"Excellent story about women finding their voices in a time when a woman couldn’t even get her own bank account without permission from a man."

Good book about the importance if dreaming without boundaries and female friendships

"Slow to start but once characters developed, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It acknowledges and celebrates the roadblocks women encountered in the 60’s and the power of friendship to help overcomes these obstacles and soar."

pick up

"easy access to pick up although there was no bell when it said ring bell for service. Someone was standing close by so it was still quick"

Captivating read

"4. 5 which I will gladly round up to 5 as I could not put the book down. The Book Club for Troublesome Women is a captivating and compelling read that captured my attention from the first to last page. Four neighbours who become life long friends bond over the book Feminine Mystic by Betty Friedan and for its time for it was very controversial. The ladies decide to form a Book Club and they call themselves The Bettys. There is Margaret, Charlotte, Bitsy and Vi. All different personalitis and all have their own problems. I absolutely loved how their friendship developed and how I wished I could join The Betty's Book Club. The four ladies are their for each other no matter what through thick and thin. I cried with these ladies, I certainly laughed along with them and I cheered them on. Times are changing and its not so much a """"man's world"""" as it once was. I thought of my Mum and how she too would have been in this era. The Book Club for Troublesome Women will no doubt be a Book Club choice for many Book Clubs. I highly recommend you grab your copy and I will warn you its hard to put down. I will miss The Betty's."

Got this as an ARC!

"I don't read (and enjoy) a lot of historical fiction but this cover and the description caught my eye and I'm so glad it did. This one’s for the girls. The messy ones. The brilliant, burned-out, sleep-deprived, heartbroken, too-much ones. The ones who rage quietly (or loudly) against the systems that keep promising freedom, then handing out consequences instead. The ones who’ve walked away from careers, countries, relationships, because they knew deep down they were meant for something more—even if they couldn’t name it yet. It’s a blueprint for defiance, for community, for what happens when smart women stop trying to play nice and start building something of their own. It’s political without preaching, feminist without flattening its characters into slogans. It’s funny, tender, blistering—and sometimes, in the best way, a little bit messy. Like all the best conversations between women. By the end, I wanted to call every woman I love and ask, What kind of world could we build if we stopped asking for permission? 5/5 for the sisterhood, the sharp wit, and the reminder that being “troublesome” might just be the most powerful thing we can be."
