Little known French-Canadian History

"I didn’t love the authors writing style but I did think the story told an important part of Canada’s history which is not taught about in schools!"

A must read!!!

"I am writing this review after reading this amazing book for a second time. It is the most interesting story. It tells the story of one of the most shameful periods in Quebec history. It tells the story of the power of the Catholic Church, and it is another example of how it can be so cruel. It tells the story of the power of Government. I am an Anglo-Quebecer and now the history of the power of the Duplessis years. Both Church and State governed the lives of Quebecers and had strong armed women in particular. It is also the story of the power of love between a mother and her child and how no Church or Government can over-power them."

Carrie (5/5)

Why would girls be unwanted?

"Easy clear writing. The themes: family relationships, Quebec history, women's history, the role of church and state controlling citizens lives for profit make 'The Home for Unwanted Girls' suitable for study in high school or university."

Leila (5/5)

Perfect Book Club Book

"Showcases a dark time of Canadian history, and a dark time of the church. It’s about a piece of Canadian history I did not know existed. It is a story of lost, love, and hope. I highly recommend reading this book with a friend or part of a book club. It’s a book that would spark deep conversations throughout."

Santarina (5/5)

Excellent read!

"A wonderful and easy to read book. Dark French Canadian history is captivated in this novel and the characters are well developed. The timelines remind me of Orphan Train."
