Captivating read

"The Midnight Train is a compelling read that will warm your heart, break your heart and at the same time is inspirational. Wilbur Budd is an 81 year old man who gave up his personal life to persue his business dream We follow him from a young lad to his final breath. When he boards The Midnight Train and goes through parts of his life he would like to change and parts that make him smile you cant help but think where would The Midnight Train take you. The train has many stops and Wilbur has regrets and needs to forgive himself. I am not sure if the book is more profound the older you are. I think it might be but then I think of my son who passed away at 37 and I wonder where his Midnight Train took him This is a journey that you wont forget and I bet many Book Clubs choose this as their read of the month."

Excellent reflective journey

"If you had to rewatch your life and realize how you could've done better, would you do anything to try to change it? What would you do if you only learned how to live once you were dead? If you had to rewatch your life and realize how you could've done better, would you do anything to try to change it? What would you do if you only learned how to live once you were dead? This is a beautiful journey through his past that's full of regret and sentimental moments. I love that the train brings him through these key occurrences. He witnesses people and scenes that he hadn't known about, which gives him additional context on his life that is both painful and healing. There were many times when he only experienced the impact without having known the cause. But then he was given the chance to fill in some of the blanks and learn more about himself and the people in his life. It's healing, but it's also painful when it comes at such a time where he can't do anything about it. ""If living normal life was like sipping water, experiencing it flashing out of a train window was more like drowning in whisky after whisky. He was drunk and battered from the blur. "" I just wanted to give him a comforting hug and reassure him that he did the best that he could do with the knowledge and tools he had at the time. The wording has a poetic ring to it that sometimes comes with a bite. The way sentences are phrased also left me wanting more information and kept me invested. Like what do you mean he missed the person he who he was and the goodness that existed in him as naturally as the grass is green?? Why is he feeling that way? It's bittersweet watching him navigate his past and all the events and people that led him to become the person he was when he died. It's an interesting take on death since he still manages to grow and change even though he's no longer alive, as if he's still living."
