"The best book for feelings of catharsis and melancholy. Cried at the end"

"The Perks of Being a Wallflower. . . where do I start? I'm not exactly sure what makes this book so special to me, it is a rather ordinary story of a high schooler through his first year, suffering mentally through loneliness. It is raw, emotional and real. It captures what high school is like for so many."

Book review - Perfectly encapsulates teen years

"I can't believe I waited so long to read this beautiful coming of age story. The Perks of Being a Wallflower is truly a work of literary art. I should have read it years ago. If you've been thinking about giving it a try, wondering if it's worth the hype - it is. Written as a series of letters from Charlie in his first year of high school, Stephen Chbosky perfectly encapsulates the feeling of being a lonely, awkward and struggling teenager. It takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions from highs of happiness, to depressive slumps. You learn alongside Charlie how to navigate relationships, new and old, and that growing up is hard. I can't wait to indulge in the story all over again when I watch the movie."

Such a real depiction of coming-of-age

"I've always enjoyed the movie adaptation of Chbosky's novel. I finally got around to reading the actual book and my expectations were absolutely met. I love narrative structures that pull away from the norm, so the plot in the form of Charlie's journal entries was both intriguing and refreshing. As someone who also values characterization, I loved Charlie's distinct voice and personality. It's such an accurate and honest depiction of coming-of-age amidst one's own internal struggles. So glad I finally read it! #IndigoEmployee"

Read With Caution

"I can see how this book could resonate with many 15-17 yr olds; high school/junior high is such a complex time. I also understand why it's considered a 'banned book'. With subjects such as suicide, depression, sex, rape, drug use, underage drinking, partying, smoking, child abuse, homosexuality, abortion, etc (what does it NOT cover), one might want to read/recommend with caution. As an adult, I could have gone without reading it, but as an adult WITH children soon to enter this period of time, I am glad I read it first before they do! I am not sure if I would recommend it to my kids at all, unless they were going through some tough times. The book leaves you with a hopeful outlook, but takes you on a very scary, and unfortunate for some, real ride. #IndigoEmployee"

A worthy gem in any collection

"Arguably one the greatest coming-of-age stories ever written. The characters are really likeable and the individual storylines for each of them keep you fully invested with curiosity from start to finish. I enjoyed how the letters subtly progressed in maturity as the relationships were built and experiences were had. Confession time…I watched the film prior to reading the book…I know lol I will say that after reading the book, I had a deeper appreciation for the roles played and how it was cast. Most notably, Emma Watson as Sam is so genuine and unforgettably real that I found myself thinking about how she hit the mark perfectly as I read the book. They took liberties with the timeline and a few other things in the movie but I would still recommend both the book and movie in whatever order you wish. If you’re a fellow empath, be ready as it’s heavy but worth the ride."

This is the book of books

"Enlighten my and inspiring!!! A must read for any wallflower"

Deanne (5/5)

A must read

"One of my favourite books & one of the few books I’ve read that really understands mental illness. It immerses the reader into the main characters thoughts & feelings; for a moment you become one with Charlie & really understand his struggles & how he copes. I recommend this book to everyone in my life."

Lovely & Cathartic

"A great, vital story. So much of life wrapped up into one little book, this book is here for all the kids who are chronically out of place. Quite cathartic and I enjoyed the writing style very much."
