"Abdullah’s ambitious debut, the first in the Sandsea Trilogy, weaves an intricate tale that draws from the legends of One Thousand and One Nights to create something entirely new.... Lush descriptions bring the setting to life, while the focus on myth and storytelling contrasted against the characters’ harsh reality adds to the sense of mystery and enchantment. This powerful, intriguing adventure will leave readers eager for more."—Publishers Weekly

Sometimes you can judge a book by its cover

Stardust their review

"I loved the writing style in this the book loved that it was an Aladdin retelling. Unfortunately it was kind of boring and not much character development which is why I gave it 2 stars"

A Magical Read!

"Layers within layers of ""story"" and ""character"". . . exotic settings. . . magical elements that charm and surprise. . . The Stardust Thief did NOT disappoint! Can hardly wait to read the next instalment."

Beautiful and Compelling

"The Stardust Thief by Chelsea Abdullah, the first in the Sandsea Trilogy, is a beautiful and compelling fantasy debut. Inspired by stories from One Thousand and One Nights, and infused with a love of stories, storytelling, and myths, The Stardust Thief is full of layered and lovable characters, an interesting plot with many unexpected twists, and a beautifully rendered Arab-inspired world. I am so pleased to have written about how much I enjoyed the characters, worldbuilding, and ethical questions of The Stardust Thief for Strange Horizons, and you can read the full review on their website."

Needed More Momentum

"3. 5 stars This was a very unique story and I really did start out loving the book at the beginning. There were aspects of the story that reminded me of the story of Aladdin and aspects of the story that oddly enough, reminded me of ""The Mummy"" movie. Maybe part of why I was reminded of those sources is the similarity of a desert setting. As much as I do love a long and detailed Fantasy novel, nearing the final quarter of this book, I felt this story was becoming too long and I was getting tired of reading it. Even though there was a lot of action and excitement at the end of the book, I feel like there needed to be more excitement in the middle of the book to keep the momentum going. I think there could have been more edited out within this book to have a better appreciation of the ending. With that being said, because of the ending, I am considering continuing this series purely because of the fate of one of my favourite characters in his book. Unfortunately, even though I remember this book now, I do think it will be one that I would have to reread before reading the next book in the series."

Chelsea Abdullah is an American-Kuwaiti writer born and raised in Kuwait, where she grew up listening to stories about mysterious desert creatures and wily (only sometimes likable) heroes.

Consumed by wanderlust, she has put down roots in various states. After earning her MA in English at Duquesne University, she moved to New York, where she currently lives. When not immersed in her own fictional worlds, she spends her free time playing video games, doodling characters, and hoarding books she doesn’t have the shelf space for.
