“One of those rare unexpected gems, a mystery that stands out from the crowd, somehow managing to be both utterly original and an homage to the great lost treasure stories at the same time. The real treasures here are Tom Ryan’s lyrical prose, a twist that will make your jaw drop, and a tender story grounded in a young girl’s love for her grandfather.”
— ALEX FINLAY, author of Every Last Fear and If Something Happens to Me.

Hidden treasure, family secrets and of course murder are enough to draw you in to this small town mystery.

"Great read. The blending of Peter, Dandy and Cassie’s individual stories along with secret treasure, family secrets and mysterious murders, along with a surprise shocker ending was a thrilling page turner for me. I also loved that it took place in Nova Scotia and although in a fictional town I’m excited to add NS to my next trip list. Would definitely read any other books by this author."

Not a Cozy Mystery

"I was disappointed with this book. It was supposed to be a cozy mystery but it is not. The book spans three generations and multiple characters and their children. It is confusing to say the least. Their was attempt to include some romance but it was not convincing or very well written. Their was one major twist that I was not expecting and that was very well done. I did not like the ending as it did not make any sense. I liked the setting, in Nova Scotia. I try to buy Canadian authors but this one was not worth my time."

Treasure Hunters find

"Really enjoyed this book. It had a gripping storyline and surprise twists, I just didn't like how the author kept switching into present tense. I don't mean back and forth time lines. . I felt a tighter edit would have been good. But I did enjoy it and the Nova Scotia setting"

Good Canadian book

"I liked the twists and the setting in Nova Scotia."

A fun adventure

"I absolutely loved the cast of characters, and the immersive setting in Nova Scotia. The plotting was such a blast with scenes from the past and present converging into an epic treasure hunt. I highly recommend this book for fans of adventure mysteries."

Not just a cozy seaside myster

"I picked up this book, thinking it would be a cozy, seaside mystery and getting so much more. This is a fast-paced novel, filled with family secrets, bodies piling up and the hunt for legendary pirate treasure. Told by multiple points of view, our main characters are: Peter, a 40 year old who feels his life is going no where, Cass, who recently gave up her dream to be an author and Dandy, a local teenage treasure hunter. The characters are relatable and full of personality. Making reading this book feel like I was sitting in the town bar watching it all play out. I was pulled in and invested fully in finding out what was happening in Maple Bay. Something I found unique was that the characters were from a variety of age groups. I think this makes the book a good fit for a broad audience as you are more likely to find a character that you can relate to. Overall, I highly recommend this book! I loved the characters, setting and the complex mystery."
