“The genre’s most popular writer… easily one of the most successful and prolific fantasy writers of the century so far.”—Esquire

“Epic in every sense.”—The Guardian on The Way of Kings

“Sanderson is a master of many aspects of the fantasy genre: epic world-building, coherent systems of magic and unforgettable character development. All those are in peak form in his masterwork, The Way of Kings.”—Paste Magazine, “The 50 Best Fantasy Books of the 21st Century (So Far)”

Slow start but it’s getting there. Very portable too.

"The book’s compact size is ideal for having on commutes when I’d rather not have a backpack. About the content: I’m only like a quarter through and still getting to know the world, but lowkey, I trust Brandon Sanderson when it comes to fantasy so I don’t mind the wait."

Amazing as Always

"Really creative concept. As always, Sanderson writes compelling 3 dimensional characters."

Denise (5/5)

wide ranging fantasy epic, very cathartic arc

"Some parts start slow to build relationships and build the world but once it gets going, you won't be able to put it down. Extremely climactic and epic ending that makes the 1000 pages worth it."

Dev117 (5/5)

Great start to a daunting series

"Great novel, outstanding world building that is not shocking the slightest knowing the mastery of Sanderson. My only griping is that some chapters feel like more a slog than others, and don't feel as necessary as others. I am a bit nervous to continue reading these just due to the enormity of the series."

Josh (4/5)

Way of kings review

"Phenomenal book. A bit of a slow burn at the start with a lot of world building. Very good ending"

Erik (5/5)

What more can I say- It’s amazing

"*no spoilers* As a newish fantasy reader I was a bit intimidated by the length of the book but it flew by. The characters both main and secondary are well-written with compelling stories. It makes you want to learn more about their life which to me is the hallmark of a good character. Please read!!"

Brooke (5/5)

Sanderson has done it again

"This book is an amazing start to introducing Roshar to the Cosmere"

AMAZING FANTASY

"WOW! Had such a hard time putting this book down. Amazing stories in an astounding fantasy world. Brandon Sanderson could easily be seen as the new J. R. R. Tolkein."

Liam V. (5/5)

Great start to an epic fantasy

"As the first book in the series of an epic fantasy, this is a great book that sets the scenes and starts the stormlight archive story."

Alexander F. (5/5)

THE WAY OF KINGS - Good, but too many words

"Overall, it was too long. He suffers from the same affliction as the late Robert Jordan, too many words to tell a good story. Interesting characters, but it too long to gain traction. I was almost ready to give up on the book, but after skipping on most of the of the preview chapters, I finally found it interesting enough to stay with it. Overall, I enjoyed the story and do recommend it. I have just started the second book and was a little perturbed to see that it is also over 1200 pages. I fear that it might also end up being too """"wordy"""". Time will tell. I am not a fast reader; thus, I am more sensitive to books that seem to take more words than necessary to tell their story."
