What would you do if the world ended ?

"TJ Klune has a way of telling a story that makes you feel like you're watching a movie unfold before your eyes. This book definitely tugged at my heartstrings. The multiple life stories we experience throughout the novel felt incredibly real and deeply human. Don and Rodney are the kind of unforgettable characters who stay with you long after you finish the book. I think my expectations for this story were overall too high, which explains my rating, but I would still definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a thought-provoking plot that will make them reflect on the meaning of our existence."

Fave book of 2026?

"Thank you to Tor Books, Macmillan Audio and Netgalley for the copies of We Burned So Bright. Here are my thoughts: The world is coming to an end. A black hole is absorbing everything, Earth included. Husbands Don and Rodney set out on a quick road trip in their RV from Maine to Washington for one final goodbye. On the way they meet a variety of people all facing the end of the world in varying ways. This novella is a contender for my favourite read of the year. Klune managed to target every possible emotion and break my heart. Don and Rodney feel like the most perfect balanced couple. As a reader, I felt safe traveling with them in that RV. The people they encounter, are a whole other story. Some of the travellers are terrifying, while others are scared. Some want to party until their death day, while others are still trying to grasp that meaning of life before it’s too late. Amelia’s story and Jeremy’s experiences are going to stick with me for a very long time. I am always impressed with a story that hits several emotions and feels like it could really happen. I mean, with the world the way it is today, haven’t we all thought about a post-apocalyptic scenario or end of the world? TJ Klune managed to paint a picture of a very real possibility that captures what it is to be human and to be scared. I listened and read this novel, and Kirt Graves did a phenomenal job capturing the motivations of out main characters and everyone else they met along the way. We Burned So Bright is right up there with House in the Cerulean Sea. A beautiful story, that I hope all of you will read!"

An Emotional Journey

"Unlike any story I’ve listened to before, We Burned So Bright is a different take on life, love, and loss. Kurt Graves narrates this remarkable book by TJ Klune not with fanfare or a cast of voices, but with a kind, steady warmth that doesn’t just sound perfect - it feels perfect. Setting off in their RV, Don and Rodney travel from Camden, Maine to Washington, avoiding interstates and big cities as they make their way across the country. It’s a pilgrimage of sorts, with a deadline looming, as the end of the world approaches. Journeying with them, we come to understand the depth of their forty year love story. Along the way, we meet people who have just fallen in love, people who misunderstand love entirely, and people who are still learning what parental love can mean. You may even find yourself falling in love with these characters too, as they race against time and open their hearts. This emotional journey invites us to question what the end would mean for us. Would we trust the science? Would we run? Would we stay? At times, I was shocked, disturbed, and disappointed by how some people reacted to this scenario, but beneath the horror was confusion, humanity and the stubborn ability to find joy and hold the hands of the people we love. As the story unfolds, the purpose of their trip comes into focus, and you’ll be swept up in every mile, every memory and every moment they share. Thank you to MacMillan Audio and NetGalley for the advance listening copy. All opinions are my own."

A beautiful, existential read.

"A sincere, heartfelt thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced readers copy. I feel so grateful and honoured for the opportunity to read TJ Klune’s new novel before its official release. I genuinely think this is one of the most beautiful queer stories i’ve ever had the pleasure of reading. It follows Don and Rodney, an older queer couple, during the final days of the end of the world as they head on a road trip to fulfill a promise to someone they love dearly. While it was a very existential read, touching on the universal fears and thoughts we all have about death and the intricate ways in which we process mortality, it was so superbly written that it truly made me want to hug my partner for a few moments longer, to try my best to not fret about the little things but to enjoy the moments in life that we take for granted more often than not; loved ones, laughs, stories, memories (even the painful ones), the queer joy all around us despite the sorrow and pain. And most importantly, the absolute resilience queer people have shown throughout time. I feel lucky to be alive at the same time as TJ Klune, an author who knows what the world needs to read right now, and who possesses the rare gift of finding hope at the end of the world. I’ll be recommending this beautiful, bite-sized book to everyone I know"
