Must-read

"One of my favourite novels of the last few years. The author takes the reader on an important journey by revealing a world few of us have access to."

Sahjones (5/5)

Compelling and thought-provoking read!

"This is a captivating story of how good intentions can go wrong. I couldn’t put this down. It’s one of my favourite reads of the last year."

William P. (5/5)

The title was spot on!

"I listened to the Audiobook and was captivated by the story and narration. I liked the perspective of first-world and third-world countries from someone who has lived in both. I appreciated the inner conflict of the protagonist. I wish the ending offered more closure, but I think it went well with the reality of the situation the protagonist is in. Someone in her situation would have a hard time finding closure."

Ela K. (4/5)

Interesting commentary in the form of a novel

"I found We Meant Well thought provoking and insightful. A good plot wrapped in interesting social commentary on development work."

Rachel (5/5)

A wonderful and powerful read

"I loved this book for a few different reasons. The first is the story telling and writing is wonderful and I was instantly swept up into the story, could see the characters in my mind as well as the place. The story brought up all sorts of questions and ethical dilemmas about countries working overseas, trying to ""help"" poor countries. It accurately describes the journey and dilemma many foreign aid workers go through. The story about how to determine the ""truth"" is also compelling."

Janet A. (5/5)

You'll like this book

"A thought provoking story of a foreign aid worker and the problems these workers encounter in their efforts to help those less fortunate. There are some difficult passages but it keeps you turning the pages to discover the answer to a mystery."

WE MEANT WELL is a novel of ideas (as well as part of a developing canon of works by Canadian writers about the complicated reality of NGOs), but also a terrific, fast paced, plot driven work that’s horrifying, fascinating, and absolutely gripping at once.” — Pickle Me This blog
