Writer and activist Florence Given tells you how feminism is going to ruin your life (in the best way possible).
A vibrantly illustrated primer on modern feminism for the Instagram generation encouraging us to question the insidious narratives that hold us back from self-acceptance, self-love, and our own power.
With her refreshingly audacious voice and unmistakable art style, Florence Given explores all corners of the conversation, from overcoming insecurity projection and the tendency to find comfort in other women's flaws to how to recognize and fight against the male gaze and other toxic cultural baggage and embrace sex and body positivity. Women Don't Owe You Pretty is here to remind us that everyone is valuable as they are and we owe the world nothing, least of all pretty.

The title is the truth. Women do not owe anyone pretty. This is a truth that I learned as I applied this book to my real life situations.
"This book really made me rethink feminism and have a new view as to what it should be about. it has given me the courage to love myself and think better about the women around me too"
— Nomi C. (4/5)
A Feminist Handbook

All things feminism, the good and the bad
"I’ve recently taken an interest in this genre and I love this book! I try to read a chapter a day as they are a lot to think about. This is definitely a book I would read again in a year or two."
— HSteele (4/5)
Wonderfully Progressive and Empowering Book
"I loved this book. It helped me reflect on some of my own behaviours so that I can be a better person, and also encouraged me to take better care of myself."

Great Gift For the Feminist In Your Life
"This book is a great one to reframe how we think about beauty, womanhood, society, and how they all intersect. The author writes like a diary and a scholarly essay all in one. This would make a great gift, the book is aesthetically beautiful and on glossy pages with lots of art."
— Rachelspov (4/5)
So good
"She made these concepts super digestible and wanting to keep reading. Read in a couple of days"

Had a lot of potential
"I read this book on a recommendation from a friend to better understand the female perspective on feminism and I was left feeling disappointed. This book had a ton of potential, in my opinion, and 85-90% of what was written was really good advice. Things like how to seek therapy to work on your past traumas, about setting healthy boundaries, being independent, learning to say no, and standing up for what you believe. Unfortunately, I found that 10-15% of what she wrote was extreme or ultimate statements that were clearly emotionally charged and, sometimes, just a blatant false statement or a reaching claim. I unfortunately found myself laughing at a few parts in the book where I felt as though the author contracted themselves in back to back paragraphs or made a completely outrageous claim (I can think of 3 times off the top of my head). The first part of the book seemed to be written very emotionally charged, and I can admit, that I found myself empathizing with the women anger feel based on how societal norms have put genders into boxes. With that said, I believe her book is written as though this is ONLY the fault of men and that ONLY men are trying to keep it that way. Rather than admitting that this also hurts men, and that there are many women who feed into this. There are books like ""The Mask of Masculinity"" and ""Bingo Theory"" that help to call out that the way society and gender roles today are setup hurt both sides. At the end of the day, I much more enjoyed the second half of the book as I believe the emotions started to calm down and solid advice on how to improve oneself to be a strong and confident person started to be the focus of the book. I'm actually impressed that she writes solid advice from experience alone; especially for someone so young (the author's first cited footnote of any other research or external information comes on page 200). I hope women who read this book find balance. My own major concern with the extremes of the book is that people who read this go from one extreme to the next (going from the one who had been poorly treated in the past to the one who does the poor treatment of others). Anger and resentment can do that to people (both male and female)."

Yes, So much Yes!
"Amazing!! Its an easy read, making feminism easily digested. The illustrations are fantastic! I recommend this book to ALL genders! *be warned, you wont want to put it down!*"
— Heather W. (5/5)
Don't Buy This Book
"I have followed this author for years and this book is a wonderful place to start. HOWEVER. . . almost all concepts in this book were taken from her friend (at the time of writing) Chidera Eggerue. I would highly recommend reading Chideras 2 books instead: ""What a time to be alone"" and ""How to get over a boy"". Chidera expressed her discomfort in how similar the books were and Florence did nothing to fix the situation. Furthermore, she is now refusing to compensate Chidera despite the fact Florence is profiting off her work. Please read Chidera Eggerue's books first. This book is entirely based on her work."
