Sara Peters was born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. She completed an MFA at Boston University, and was a Stegner Fellow in poetry at Stanford University from 2010 to 2012. Her poems have appeared in Poetry Daily, The Threepenny Review, and The Walrus. She lives in Toronto.

“There’s something very Bishop-like about the poems in 1996.” — Joshua Mensch, Body Literature

“…this exceptionally brave and fierce first collection left me shaken.” — Jenny Boychuk, The Coastal Spectator

“Peters' language… sparkles with clarity -- not to mention steely nerve.” — CBC Books

“Sara Peters’ large-minded speculative vision is not interested in a carbon copy world of appearances, but in the “throbbing interior” of her imagination.” — Chris Banks, Table Music

“Peters' achingly stoic collection of poems is vibrant with narrative voices that are clear, confident and unforgiving. Wildly gripping and honest, 1996 conveys the same daunting feeling in thirty distinct ways.” — Gina Vaynshteyn, The Los Angeles Review

“...[Sara Peter's] technique is impeccable...” — Quill & Quire
