A haunting, unforgettable masterpiece

"⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I wasn’t sure what to expect going into All the Colors of the Dark. Despite endless recommendations, the premise didn’t immediately call to me. But once I finally picked it up, I found myself utterly consumed by one of the most powerful and beautifully devastating stories I’ve read all year. Set in Missouri in the 1970s, the novel follows 13-year-old Joseph “Patch” Macauley, whose brave act to save a girl from abduction changes the course of countless lives. When Patch himself disappears, his best friend Saint refuses to give up the search even after everyone else does. Their story stretches across decades, unraveling a chain of events that entwines the fates of an unforgettable cast of characters. Chris Whitaker’s storytelling defies genre—blending mystery, suspense, historical fiction, and a haunting exploration of friendship, trauma, and resilience. His prose is lyrical yet sharp, and the characters are so vividly drawn they feel heartbreakingly real. At its core, this is not just a thriller, but a profound coming-of-age story and a meditation on love, loyalty, and the ripple effects of loss. It is a heavy read, unflinching in its darker themes, but it’s also achingly beautiful. Gritty, haunting, and deeply human, All the Colors of the Dark will stay with you long after you turn the final page. Highly recommended for readers who crave stories that are as emotionally raw as they are unforgettable."

Glad I stuck to it as thoroughly enjoyable!

"At the initial start I was not sure whether I could read this book due to its initial few pages. But I kept at it, and I am glad I did as it did not disappoint. A twist that kept on spiralling."

Five Stars

"This is the first five star of the year for me. Huge disclaimer, this is not solely a murder mystery/ serial killer/ thriller!!! Don’t expect it to run through fast. Don’t expect to turn the pages fast. The chapters are super short and the scenes change pretty quickly, but I consider it a contemporary epic. If you are not into literary fiction or if you want a quick read, forget this one…just don’t even touch it. What I love about this writer is that he doesn’t give you what you want, he writes his story, unbothered, not seeking validation or approval, he just tells his story! He doesn’t write a feel good story where everything in life goes smoothly as butter for his characters, but gets gut punched and fucked over and over. He shows life as is and as raw and real as it could get!"
