"I absolutely loved Anne of Green Gables and was ecstatic to read this sequel. But unfortunately, I was a little disappointed by this book because we lose the girl that came to green gables in the first book. Don't get me wrong it was still a really good book but not quite like the first one."

"I bought this particular set for myself and couldn't be happier with the lovely soft illustrations and the quality of the book. I must say though I enjoyed the first book much better. I found at times that it was somewhat sad but still found her experiences amusing. I love how well you get to know the characters individually like Marilla and the constant gossip of Mrs. Rachel Lynde. It's a book full of love and excitement and it shows a deeper insight into Anne growing up and her conflicting feelings towards Gilbert Blythe. I would recommend this to any lover of the Anne girl series!"

Unpopular opinion

"This sequel wasn't very good. I read up on it and Lucy Maud Montgomery was surprised of the success of Anne of Green Gables and immediately starting writing a sequel to publish. The rushed writing and publication of Anne of Avonlea reflects in the story because it serves no purpose. Nothing happens. Anne and Marilla taking on two orphans added nothing to the story. Anne being a schoolteacher at her old school added nothing to the story. Anne being part of the improvement society added nothing to the story. The random side characters (Mr. Harrison, Mrs. Lavender, Paul Irving, etc. ) added nothing to the story. Like there wasn't any real conflict at all. Although it was fun seeing Diana get engaged and the two scenes that went into detail about Gilbert's feelings towards Anne, there wasn't enough of it. They were also at the very end of the book. My favourite chapter was the one describing Hester Gray. It's where you catch a glimpse of the fantastical person Anne was when she was younger and how she's always been a romantic."

Lucy Maud Montgomery (1874-1942) was born in what is now New London, Prince Edward Island, and raised by her grandparents after the death of her mother when she was just two. She worked for a time as a teacher and a journalist, then wrote her first novel, Anne of Green Gables, in the evenings while caring for her grandmother. When the book appeared in 1908, it was an instant success; it would go on to sell millions of copies in dozens of languages the world over, making Anne one of literature's most beloved characters of all time.

Elly MacKay is a paper artist and a children's book author and illustrator. She studied illustration and printmaking at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and at the University of Canterbury, in New Zealand. Her distinctive pieces are made using paper and ink, and then are set into a miniature theatre and photographed, giving them their unique three-dimensional quality. Elly lives in Owen Sound, Ontario, with her husband and two children.
