Né en 1889 à la Jamaïque, Claude McKay, poète et romancier américain, fut l'une des principales figures de la « Harlem Renaissance » aux côtés de Langston Hughes, mais aussi de Louis Armstrong ou Duke Ellington. Il a notamment écrit Home to Harlem, traduit par Louis Guilloux en 1932. Après avoir vécu en France, il est retourné en 1934 aux États-Unis, où il est décédé en 1948.
